Media Release: Friday September 11, 2015

43rd running of FBD 7s

A Dublin vs Kerry All Ireland Final meant the renewal of the classic 70s rivalry was to the fore at the launch of the 2015 FBD7's, which took place in the home of Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club in Stillorgan, south county Dublin.

Dubs star of the 70s, Robbie Kelleher, has called Kilmacud Crokes home for many years, with his children representing the club at all levels and he himself using his business skills as Treasurer.  Robbie was joined by old adversary Charlie Nelligan, the legendary Kerry Keeper whose net minder son played for Kilmacud Crokes for several years.

In addition Crokes greats Paul Mannion, Mark Vaughan, Johnny Magee and Ray Cosgrove were there to share their experiences of big days in Croke Park with the Dubs.  Finally former Laois and Westmeath manager Tomas O Flaherty, a native of Kerry, was on hand to offer his insights on the upcoming All Ireland Final.

The renowned FBD 7's tournament takes place on Saturday, 19 September in and around Kilmacud. This is the 43rd year of Ireland's premier Senior 7s tournament which has become a firm favourite in the GAA calendar for both players and supporters alike.

This year we are joined by big name clubs for far and wide with All Ireland Champions, COROFIN of GALWAY, looking to make it a Senior Club Clean Sweep and dethrone reigning Champions ST. GALLS  of ANTRIM. As usual all 4 provinces will be represented through clubs such as Garrycastle from Westmeath, Castlehaven for Cork, Omagh St. Endas from Tyrone and Tuam Stars from Galway amongst others.

The fans favourite; a draw for those elusive All-Ireland tickets, will also be available to supporters and players alike on the day.

'Kilmacud Crokes' Sevens event has long since been enshrined as an integral part of All-Ireland weekend and huge crowds flock to the club year in year out to see top level action and to really kick start All-Ireland weekend.'- Robbie Kelleher.

"It's a credit to the club that they organise the event to such a high standard on an annual basis and I wish them well with their 2015 event, knowing it will be every bit as successful as in previous years.' - Charlie Nelligan.

Mr. Sean Fox, Broker Development Manager with FBD and Chairman of the Kilmacud Crokes Football Committee said, 'As a member of Kilmacud Crokes I am very proud to be standing here in the home of Kilmacud Crokes, my home as a boy and a man, to see the 43rd consecutive running of the premier Senior Football Sevens competition in Ireland and obviously from an FBD point of view, I am delighted to be here for our fourth involvement as the FBD7s.

Michael Garvey, FBD Director of Marketing & Sales added 'Throughout our 45 years in business FBD has consistently supported local and national sport in Ireland and we continue this tradition with the FBD 7's in Kilmacud Crokes.

At FBD we are proud of our long standing relationship with the GAA and as an Irish company with 32 offices nationwide we are able to observe at close quarters the vital role the GAA plays in both rural and urban life in Ireland.

This is the 4th year of our sponsorship with the iconic Kilmacud Crokes club and we look forward to the 2015 staging being the best event yet. We wish all those competing the very best of luck'.

Executive Chairman of Kilmacud Crokes, Kevin Foley commented, 'We are very appreciative of FBD and their support and for supporting our passion in Gaelic games. Now known as the FBD 7s we believe that this partnership will help to keep the Sevens tournament front and centre on All-Ireland Final weekend as it should be.

Sean Fox added 'To the senior lads and ladies here today from our own club, who continue to deliver on and off the field, thank you for being such wonderful ambassadors for your club and county over the years, there is more work to be done, but you have proved to be the people to do it!

This competition has without doubt gone from strength to strength over the last 43 years but special thanks must also go to the GAA and to the media for their continued support,' he concluded.
