Gerry Collins Memorial Football Tournament - August 15th 2015
Gerry was honoured not alone for his contribution to the club over his long association with us, but also for his immense contribution to the 'Quit Smoking' Campaign. Gerry's very powerful anti-smoking adverts have encouraged over 100,000 people to quit smoking this year alone. We are delighted the Collins family allow us to associate his name with our internal tournament Gerry's brother Declan was on site as a physio for the day yesterday & his son Stephen presented the cup with John McClave from Bank of Ireland Montrose.
This year's winners were 'The Late Late Show' managed by Gerry Walsh & captained by senior footballer Stephen Williams. They beat 'Dempsey's Den' in the cup final managed by our senior manager Gabriel Bannigan captained by senior football Craig Dias. The Late Late show won by 3 points in a close encounter, they led 2-2 to 0-3 points at half time however Dempsey's Den scored 2 goals to fight their way back only to concede a late goal final score was 3-5 to 2-5.
We also had a plate final which was won by republic of tele managed by Nicky McGrath & Davy Keogh with Captain Shane Horan they beat Glenroe managed by John Moriarty & Aidan Horan captained by Kevin Creasey.
