U16 FOOTBALLERS REACH COUNTY FINAL

U16 footballers reach county final following a magnificent team performance.

Our U16 footballers qualified for the county final against all the odds when they convincingly beat St. Brigid's in the semi final in Silver Park last Saturday.

With many of their All Ireland winning Feile squad of last year on board and having beaten one of the giants of U16 football Na Fianna the previous weekend Brigid's started with a confidence that comes from winning.

However as the half progressed one could see a momentum swing and suddenly Brigid's realised they were in a dog fight.

Kilmacud played with the wind and some magnificent free taking from Michael Fawley saw us lead 5-1 at half time.

Whilst the first half was competitive nothing would have prepared us for the absolute dominance that Kilmacud experienced all over the field in the second half.

The discipline and control as the ball was moved from defence to attack was outstanding and Kilmacud should have been out of sight long before the final whistle.

Fergal Whitley had the game of his life and with the midfield pairing of Ben Shovlin and Conor Kelly getting stronger our inside forwards monopolised possession.

For a team that has had its difficulties over the years and works off a very small panel it is a magnificent achievement to arrive in a county final.

Whilst we will be underdogs against the all conjuring Ballymun team a repeat of the semi final performance and this magnificent year could even get better.
