Joint GAA/GPA initiative

A message from Lisa Clancy, GAA Director of Communicaitons.

This year we have had an amazing Championship and thank you for your help in promoting it. At the beginning of this month we launched a new joint GAA/GPA initiative -Freestyle Hurling. The aim is to help promote the game of hurling across the world using modern media to showcase the skills of the game.

Freestyle Hurling is the art of expressing yourself with a Hurley and sliotar while performing skills and trick shots using any part of the body. The challenge is simple: pick up your hurley and show the world what you can do by posting your very own ‘Freestyle Hurling’ videos online. More information on how to enter the competition can be found at www.gaa.ie/freestylehurling

There are two main videos on the Official GAA YouTube channel to explain the concept in more detail. Freestyle Hurling videos have been viewed 100,000 times.

We have already received entries from around the country and one of the entries has been viewed over 25,000 times online.

The three finalistsof the competition as judged by a panel will have the unique opportunity to appear at half time at the All-Ireland Hurling Final day on September 8 and the overall winner will secure a place on the All-Stars trip to China later in the year.
We would like your help in promoting this new initiative by encouraging clubs and individuals of all ages to enter. Please promote via your website, newsletter , Facebook or Twitter profiles. All help is greatly appreciated and the competition closes on August 31.
