The GAA National Coaching and Games Development Committee will pilot a new Hurling Wall competition called "Balla Ball" at this year's Meteor Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens taking place on Saturday 5th of September 2009 in Glenalbyn, Stillorgan.

Balla Ball Competition at the Hurling Arena on Saturday 5 September 2009Hurling Walls have been developed in many venues throughout the country in recent years and the Balla Ball competition has been devised in order to fully exploit and showcase these facilities. The competition will require participants to hit targets of various sizes on the wall from various distances and each participant will have a set time to achieve as high a score as possible.

A number of inter county stars including Stephen Hiney, David O'Callaghan Ross O Carroll and Niall Corcoran will be present to demonstrate the skills required and to get the event underway The final, which will be contested by the top 5 points scorers in each group, will be held at 4.30pm. There will be an adult competition and an U-13 competition on the day with both commencing at 2pm.

The competition has been designed by Humphrey Kelliher in association with the committee whose members include former Cork and Galway stalwarts John Fenton and Sean Silke and is chaired by Laois's Liam O'Neill.

The National Games Development Committee hope to develop the initiative into an annual National All Ireland Hurling Wall Competition over the next 3 years, supporting the development of skill levels in the process.

Kilmacud Crokes with Meteor are delighted to include this innovative competition and to pilot its launch on the day of the All Ireland Sevens. Special trophies have been designed for the winners in each category.
