Golf As It Should Be

Body

The annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Golf Classic took place on Thursday 16th June 2011 at Bray Golf Club.

The USGA-standard parkland course was in great condition.  Excellent prizes and spectacular views over Killiney Bay and the Wicklow Mountains added to the occasion for the all teams taking part.  The few showers that briefly came did little to dampen spirits

This was the Hurling Section’s second major corporate event of the year and, as with the Punchestown Race Day, our friends in the commercial sector were most generous in their response.

Post golf, the participants were treated to excellent fare by the very attentive catering staff before prize giving at 9.30 pm

First prize went to Thomas Barry & Company, Solicitors, the penultimate team to tee off, with a score of 85 points.  The team consisted of Brendan Sweeney, Liam Murray, Dermot O’Sullivan and Tom Barry.  Runners up with 84 points (better back nine) was the 2009 winner, the ESB team consisting of Pat Fenlon, Martin Byrne, Paul Nolan and Eamonn Sweeney Finnegan, which just pipped the Intermediate Hurlers (Damien Byrne, Donal McGovern, Peter Clinton and Niall Byrne) also on 84 points.

The winners collected a Cobra driver each for their day’s work.  The other prize winners were:

4.     Citibank

5.     Brian Murphy

6.     Irish Life Corporate Business

7.     Dell

8.     Phelan Prescott

9.     Phoenix Pipe

Nearest the pin (on the ninth hole – 2 feet, 5 inches) was organiser in chief Brian Murphy, while the longest drive was won by D Moloney on the fifteenth.

Kilmacud Crokes Hurling is indebted to the organising work group of Brian Murphy, Declan Herlihy, Padraig O’Sullivan, Colm Maher, Michael Veale, Tim Dolphin and Sean Allen for their efforts in making the event such a success.  Thanks also to Gerry French who greeted and guided arrivals and to all who helped with the day
