Our 5th Adult hurling team opened their Junior F Championship campaign on Sunday with an impressive victory over old friend and foes, The Wild Geese from Oldtown in North County Dublin.

They were welcomed to Silverpark bathed in glorious sunshine. A perfect summers day.

The welcome ended early with a strong start from a crokes team made up of a great mix of veterans and debutants.

Cousins Barrai Macgabhann and Arran Murphy made their adult debut under the watchful gaze of their parents and grandparents Connie and Gearoid MacGabhann. The baton passes!

Plenty of those involved had hurled with their fathers and it was nearly the sort of day to tempt Niall and Gearoid back across the white line to join their sons.

The 2017 vintage did more than enough though and led by 5 at half time and finished strongly to finish winners by 10 points. 2-14 to 2-4.

After the match Peter Walsh made a presentation of support and sympathy to the Wild Geese community to mark the contribution and loss of their long term member and player Ciaran Smith, fallen winchman of Rescue Helicopter R116.

Win or lose, this was just a game but the joint gathering of both players at the end is the most important representation and memory of an important day for all involved.
