Report for Week Ending 23rd May 2010

Body

All the adult teams had league double fixtures during the week.

For the premier team it was a mixed bag.  A good battling display on Wednesday evening (May 19th 2010) was followed by a below par Saturday evening.  The mid week trip to 12th Lock produced a 2-16 to 2-12 win.  The visitors were two points in arrears at the interval, 2-4 to 0-6.  A strong second half yielded 2-8 and a brace of league points.  To the fore were Adrian Grogan, Ronan Walsh, Naomhaon O’Rearden, Barry O’Rorke and Hugh Gannon.

Team: MacD O’hOgain, S McNicholas, N Lillis, A Grogan, A de Paor, R Walsh, G McMorrow, S O’Rorke, C Clinton, H Gannon, J Burke, B O’Rorke, N O’Rearden, B Hanamy, F Armstrong.

It was back to earth in Silverpark on Saturday evening, going down 3-11 to 0-16 to Faughs.  Most of the damage was done in the first half as Crokes fell 3-5 to 0-7 behind.  An improved second half performance with strong contributions from Shane O’Rorke, Barra O’Leidhin,

Gary McMorrow and Hugh Gannon was not enough to salvage the points.

Team: MacD O’hOgain, N Lillis, F Garvey, S McNicholas, A de Paor, R Walsh, G McMorrow, S O’Rorke, C Clinton, H Gannon, A Tiernan, B O’Rorke, B O’Leidhin, P Clinton,N O’Rearden.  Sub: N Mulligan for P

In Wednesday’s AHL3 game the intermediates overcame St Marks at

McGeePark. For report see kilmacudcrokes-hurling.com/Home/tabid/808/ctl/Details/mid/1847/ItemID/2228/Default.aspx  .

The Sunday morning game against O’Tooles did not proceed as the latter could not field.

On Thursday the Junior B’s defeated Ballinteer by 3-10 to 0-14 at Silverpark in AHL5.  Sunday morning saw them venture as far as Portmarnock to take on Naomh Mearnog at Torcaill.  A goal and twelve second half points guided Crokes to a 1-19 to 2-10 victory (at half time Crokes led 0-7 to 1-2).  Jonathon Healy-Hayes, Shane Canny at wing back,

Adrian Crean and substitute Mark O’Dwyer were most prominent.

Also on Thursday the Junior E’s were deprived of at least a draw in their AHL8 tie with table toppers Cuala by the concession of a late goal.  Even though they got a point back they still went down by two, 2-12 to 2-10.  Among the more impressive performers were Pat Kennedy, Niall McIntyre and

Hugh Liston.  Sunday required a trip to west Dublin to face Erin Go Breagh at St Catherines Park.  This was rewarded with a 1-15 to 4-2 win where late goals put a more favourable gloss for the losers.  Sean Boyd, Fionan Motherway, Oisin O’Carroll and John Galvin starred.

Team: G Hyland, S Boyd, R Egan, P Byrne, S Beale, P Kennedy, O O’Carroll, S O’Keeffe (0-5), N McIntyre, F Motherway (1-1), N Martin (0-4), J Galvin, I O’Keffe (0-4), H Liston, N Salvino (0-1).  Sub: F O’Connor for P Byrne

There was plenty of Sunday morning underage action.  The under 15’s had little difficulty in claiming both league points against St Vincents at in Silverpark.  The visitors led 0-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes.  After that it was one way traffic.  The winners were 2-7 to 0-2 to the good at the short whistle and 5-14 to 0-5 in front at the conclusion.  For pictures click on the following camera!

In Pairc de Burca the under 13’s entertained Outlart the Ballagh’s under 14 team.  At the end of a good competitive game the Wexford boys, thanks to three late goals, won by eleven points.  In Deerpark the under 14B’s hosted a four team tournament involving Fingallians, Cuala and Naas that saw Cuala claim the spoils, defeating Fingallians in the final.  For report on under 13 activity see

For their weekend’s hurling the under 12’s travelled to

Cork.  On Saturday evening they defeated Newtownshandrum by 4-8 to 2-8.  Best for Crokes were Michael Roche, Ronan Hayes, Darragh Kennedy, Jim Gibbons and Peter O’Reilly.  The following text from one grateful parent “Usual gr8 hospitality from newtown, followed by swim, sauna, dinner in hotel.  Beautiful weather” aptly sums it up.  On Sunday it was on to Na Piarsaigh on the north side of Cork city where the Crokes boys won the Shield final with a five point advantage over Ballygunner.  Earlier they had beaten Blarney and lost to Na Piarsaigh hosts.  Our thanks to our hosts and all who contributed to the trip.

                                                            Secondary Schools

Friday 21st May 2010 saw a little bit of history created in one of the club’s feeder schools when the first ever competitive hurling game was played in

GonzagaCollege with the team being the first to sport specially designed school hurling jerseys.  This was the opening match against TempleogueCollege in a first year blitz.  Gonzaga, with eight Crokes players on board, including four starters from the previous Sunday’s A Feile win, won 1-6  to 0-1.  In the next game TerenureCollege overcame Templeogue to set up a final against the hosts.  Notwithstanding a strong revival, the concession of early scores proved too difficult an obstacle to overcome as the Dublin 6W team prevailed 3-10 to 2-5.

Gonzaga Panel: Sean Crowe (Kilmacud Crokes), Conor Fitzmaurice, Ruairi Geraghty capt.
