Report Week Ending 7th November 2010

Body

The threatened spillover from Hurricane Thomas storm didn’t come but the Crokes minors put in a storming performance at O’Toole Park on Sunday 7th November 2010 to claim the Dublin Minor A Hurling Championship for the third time in four years and the club’s thirteenth in all.

Apart from a rocky opening ten minutes the underdogs were good value for their impressive 3-12 to 1-9 win.  At the break they led 2-6 to 0—5 and Boden had been forced into three tactical substitutions and several positional switches.  The Firhouse Road side reduced the arrears to a single goal three minutes into the second half but Crokes steadied and from then on gave as good as they got in a captivating second half.  Well done to all concerned especially the management team of Peter Walsh, Kieran Dowling and Martin O’Dwyer and also to the B panel and management of Liam O’Carroll, Dave Moran and Donie Dowling as well as Niall Kavanagh.  For report see HERE

Saturday 6th November 2010 was landmark day for the under 13C’s as they claimed the Division 5 title with a 6-6 to 0-3 win over Wild Geese at Oldtown.    Ending a long year with 20 points out of a possible 24, the team topped the Division by 4 points and great credit is due to players, managements and parents.   For report see HERE

The same afternoon the under 21B’s secured an opening C championship win over Commercials at Rathcoole.  As Crokes started slowly the home team ran up a five points lead.  Crokes clawed their way back with a great Richie Tighe goal.  It was 1-5 all at half time.  The second half was very tight and after a hard slog in heavy conditions the Stillorgan side emerged 2-10 to 1-9 winners.  In defence, captain, Paddy Igoe led by example, well aided by Jack Doughan, Sean Murphy and Paul Collis while Ciaran O’Grady, Shane McNicholas, Richie Tighe and Daire Brennan starred up front.

For the under 12A’s it was a successful trip across to Malahide as they accounted for St Sylvesters by one point in Division 2 of the league.

A meeting for parents of new boys who have recently started at the Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Nursery was held in Glenalbyn on Tuesday September 28th.  At the meeting Hurling Coach Niall Corcoran outlined the coaching aims that we are trying to achieve within the nursery as well as outlining how the hurling nursery is structured.  We got a good response from parents that were willing to help out in the nursery, which is crucial to the success of the nursery.

We would encourage anybody who is interested in giving a hand out at the nursery to make him or herself known to Niall or the head coach organising a particular skills station on the morning.

When parents and children arrive in the morning, Marion will be taking the registration for both the 2005 & 2004 groups.  If anybody is in a position to help with registration please make yourself known to Marion at the start of the session.
