Report for weekend of 1 April 2007

Body

Highlight of the week was the fourth annual Kilmacud Crokes on Tour when nearly 200 children from the under 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 age groups, their mentors and parents travelled to Kilkenny.  In total 13 teams took the field at seven different venues.

All teams gave a good account of themselves and our thanks to our hosts for their kind hospitality.  Particularly noteworthy was the performance of the under 14’s who defeated O’Loughlin Gaels 3-10 to 2-2.  Leading 0-5 to 0-1 against the wind at half time Crokes piled on the second half pressure.  Leading lights included Emmet Doherty at centre back, John Huban, Alex Pilkington and Justin Cassidy. See a more detailed report of the day elsewhere in the “Latest News” section and some images HERE. Earlier back in Dublin the Junior B’s were well beaten by Cuala’s second team in the League.

Saturday saw an extensive programme of games from under 12 down.  One under 12 team accounted for Faughs 4-5 to 0-0 while the others did not play.  The under 11’s (two teams played Bray winning one and losing one while a single under 11 squad beat Naomh Olafs comprehensively.  The under 10’s accounted for Ballinteer St Johns and Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh.  Crumlin (won 2, lost 2) and Clontarf (won 5, drew 1) provided the opposition for the under 9’s.  The under 8’s (3 teams) played Castleknock wining five and drawing one while the under 8’s (two teams) overcame Good Counsel.

At adult level the intermediates had a fine 3-11 to 1-5 win over Fingallians in Silverpark with Dave Canny, Willie Ryan, Damien McSweeney and Conor Condon to the fore.   Having led 0-8 to 0-3 at the break the seniors went down 2-12 to 0-12 away to St Vincents in the league.

Hurling Arena & Punchestown Race Day

Work continues apace on our new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn.  This €500,000 project will be a huge addition to hurling in the club and is entirely funded by the Hurling Section.  Our fourth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day takes place in Punchestown on Tuesday 24th April.  The event has gone from success to success and if you are in any way in a position to influence your company’s entertainment spend at €1,750 for a table of ten you won’t find better value or quality.  Please contact Brian Geraghty, Hurling Section, Commercial Officer, 087-2312378 and brianpgeraghty@eircom.net.  Donations or spot prizes also very welcome.
