U12s v Durlas Og, 23 Apr 2006

Body

The Kilmacud Crokes under 12 hurling squad had an early start for a great day out in Thurles on Sunday 23rd April 2006.

On arrival at the birthplace of the GAA we togged out for a game against the local Durlas Og.  This was a pulsating encounter which eventually saw the locals emerge victorious by a four point margin.

Goalkeeper Cian MacGabhann was again in outstanding form fronted by a very able full back line of Mark Collins, KJ McGowan and Daibhid Corish.  Centre back Oisin O’Rorke performed excellently with good support from his two flankers Matthew Geraghty and Conor O’Byrne.  At midfield Conor Devins and Maitiu McNicholas sent plenty of ball in to the forwards.  Right half forward Neil Gorey made several penetrating runs and got some good scores.  Cian Gormley was a very effective centre forward while Caolan Conway got some great scores.  Inside Michael Herlihy, Eoin Ryall, James Murphy and Thomas Campion were a handful for their markers.

After the game we were treated to hospitality by our generous hosts and we thank them for making us so welcome.  We then proceeded to Semple Stadium for the National Hurling League semi-finals (Limerick –v- Clare and Kilkenny –v- Tipperary), during the course of which our travelling party introduced themselves to Jimmy Doyle (Tipperary) of Team of the Millenium fame.  After the games the lads had the opportunity of pucking around on the filed itself before meeting the Kilkenny squad.  A hectic day was brought to a close with a “chip stop” in the Square before we headed for home.
