Match Report/ Match Highlights:

Under 14 Hurlers – Comfortable win ensures Championship Final encounter versus St Vincents

A good crowd witnessed a powerful display by the Croke's Under 14 team down in Pairc de Burca. A blistering opening ten minutes saw Crokes play with an intensity that completely shocked a weakened Ballyboden side (7 of their side were missing due to their Under 13’s playing in an Under 13 Championship semi final at the same time) and saw Seanie McGrath score three goals (3rd, 5th and 8th minutes), Naomhan scoring one goal after four minutes and Eddie scoring a long range point in the sixth minute. As Crokes drew breath, Ballyboden responded with two points in the 11th & 14th minutes and started to play with grit and determination. However Crokes responded with another Seanie McGrath goal (from a free), another Eddie point and two Naomhan points. Crokes went into the half time break with a five goal and four point to two point lead.

Crokes started the second half as they started the first and after three minutes had added a further two goals and a point. Mark scored the point latching onto a great diagonal ball struck in from midfield by Matthew, less than a minute later Naomhan scored his second goal of the game and thirty seconds later, Seanie added to his already impressive tally with another goal. Over the next fifteen minutes or so, the Croke’s momentum was disrupted as 9 substitutions were made, ensuring that all of the panel got a good run. During this period Ballyboden added three points and a goal to their score, but Crokes were not finished, Eddie and Johnny added another two points and Eoin scored a goal to leave Crokes with an impressive final tally of 8 goals and 7 points to Ballyboden’s 1 goal and 5 points.

A very impressive performance by all 24 players who took the field, but this performance will have to be bettered next week against St Vincent’s in the final, if we are to become the first Dublin side to win the inaugural Under 14 Championship title. St Vincents ran out easy winners (3 – 11 to 1 – 03) over Erins Isle in the other semi final.
