Week ending 13 April 2008

Body

Trip to Tipp

Highlight of the weekend was the Sunday “KC on Tour” trip to Tipperary and Nowlan Park.  Over 150 boys from under 8 to under 12 together with a large body of mentors and parents travelled in six buses for games to Toomevarra, JK Brackens (Templemore), Durlas Og, Drom and Inch, Kildanagan and Urlingford (for the purposes of the day annexed Tipperary).  As usual the reception from our hosts was magnificent and we extend our thanks to them.  Following an excellent meal in the Anner Hotel in Thurles it was on to Nowlan Park, as guests of the Kilkenny County Board, to witness the exciting National Hurling League semi-final between Tipperary and Kilkenny.  After the match the convoy struck for home reaching base about 8pm tired but exhilarated.

Special thanks to all those who “managed” the buses, Robbie Kinsella, Alan Keogh, Eoin O’Neill, James O’Cleirigh, Colm Maher and Paul Gorman; and to all the mentors who managed the games. Many thanks also to Jim Ryan for organising the smooth entry into Nowlan Park and to the organising group, Frances Herlihy, Kevin Coakley, Paul Gorman, Jim Ryan and Mick Crowe.  For report click  HERE , posted by Mick Crowe.

Seniors conclude Leinster League Campaign

On Saturday 12th April 2008 the seniors concluded what has been a very useful Leinster Senior League campaign with a game away to Buffers Alley of Wexford.  The opposition provided a strong, tough challenge, exactly the kind of match needed with the opening round of the championship to come against St Brigids in O’Toole Park at 5pm on Saturday 26th April.  After a well contested game victory went to the Model County men by 2.13 to 0-12.

Buffers Alley raced into an early lead through several good points from play. Crokes responded with two frees from Barry O'Rorke. The home team then scored a well worked goal to lead by seven points after 15 minutes.  This spurred Crokes into action and they scored five good points from play, including two long range efforts from Brian Motherway, to the Alley's one, leaving a half time score of 1-8 to 0-7.

A very competitive second half saw points traded before Donal McGovern powered through the home defence to score an excellent goal. Buffers Alley pulled 3 points clear again before Crokes cut the deficit to one with two minutes left. Some indiscipline in the Crokes defence saw a 28 yard free moved in to the 21 and a goal resulted, ending any chance of a comeback.  Buffers Alley now progress to the quarter final on the competition while Crokes bow out.

Team: Paul Graham, Adrian Grogan, Dave Mahony, Fergus Garvey, Aodhan De Paor, Niall Corcoran, Damien Byrne, Ross O'Carroll, Barry O'Rorke, Brian Motherway, James Burke, Neil Casey, Donal McGovern, Eoin Fitzgerald, Alan Tiernan.  Subs (not used) Niall Butler, Shay Gillen, Andrew Hopkins, MacDara O'Hógáin.

Punchestown Corporate Race Day

The new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn was built at a cost of €500,000 and will be a huge addition to hurling in the club.  It is entirely funded by the Hurling Section and we still have some way to go.

Our fifth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day takes place in Punchestown on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 and proceeds go towards the cost of the Arena.  The event has gone from success to success and bookings are now being taken.  Donations or spot prizes remain very welcome.  Please contact Brian Geraghty, Hurling Section, Commercial Officer, 087-2312378 and brianpgeraghty@eircom.net.
