Week Ending 16th November 2008

“A” league titles for the under 14’s and under 12’s and a narrow semi-final loss for the minor “B’s” were the highpoints of the weekend action.  During the week Dublin South Colleges, with nine Crokes starters, qualified for the Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling League Final.

The under 14’s defeated Whitehall Colmcilles at Silverpark, 6-9 to 2-5.  As well as maintaining their 100% league record this was enough to guarantee them the title to add to the Feile crown, won in May.  Crokes got on top in first half and thereafter were never troubled.   The winners victory was marked by a solid defensive performance while Ross McGowan and top scorer Barry Horan, who had a goal fest, put in sterling individual displays.

Cian MacGabhann, Andrew Colclough, Daibhid Corish, Mark Collins, Conor O’Dwyer, Robert Murphy, James Murphy, Ross McGowan, Matthew Geraghty, Cian Gormley, Conor Devins, Mathew McNicholas,  Conor O’Byrne, Barry Horan, Neil Gorey.  Subs Louis O’Sullivan for C Gormley, Kevin James McGowan for C Devins, Conor J O’Dwyer for N Gorey, Philip O’Shea for M McNicholas and Michael O’Dwyer for C O’Byrne

Saturday was also a double completion day for the under 12A’s.  A comprehensive victory over Faughs secured the Division 1 league to go with the Cup won earlier in the year.  For report see HERE

In the under 21 championship south semi-final due to be played on Saturday St Patricks of Palmerstown conceded a walkover leaving Crokes to face Lucan in the south section final, fixed for Silverpark on Saturday 29th November at 2.15pm

On Sunday morning in Ballycullen in the Minor Hurling Championship “E” semi-final replay Crokes “B’s” played Ballyboden St Enda’s second team.  This was a closely contested game that had the sides level at half time, 1-5 (Crokes) to 0-8.  The concession of a goal not long into the second half proved crucial and try as they mightily did, showing great character, Crokes could never gain parity in the time remaining.  As the final whistle sounded the home team were 1-12 to 1-10 ahead.  Crokes best performers were Sean Murphy, Paul Collins, Conor Caulfield and James O’Keeffe.  Much praise most go to the management team for the manner in which they prepared the squad.  For those players finished with minor we wish them long and happy adult hurling careers with the club.

Team: S Garvey, P Collins, H Byrne, C O’Brien, E Hyland, S Murphy, C Thornton, C Casey, C Cunningham, C Caulfield, C Garvey, E Dalton, G Melican, K Hogarty, K Russell.  Subs J O’Keeffe for C Thornton B Callinan for E Hyland, D Mulligan for C Casey, S Harding, P McCague, B Halpin, P Dennieffe, D Brennan, M Lynskey and J Healy-Hayes

The Hurling Nursery continues on Saturdays in Glenalbyn - at 9am for boys born 2002 and at 10am for boys born 2001 and 2003.  All newcomers will begin their training with Niall Corcoran, Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Coach, in “the new group” for a few weeks and then the older new players will be transferred into their appropriate age group. The boys born in 2003 will continue as a separate group and become the “new” Under 6’s at the beginning of 2009.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Niall Corcoran, Club hurling coach,  087 983 4287, niall.corcoran@gmail.com

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
