Dublin’s 2009 hurling odyssey ended on Sunday 26th July against Limerick in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter final at Thurles.  Up 1-2 within three minutes the Dubs were gradually reined in and the sides were level, 1-10 to 2-7, at the short whistle.  For twenty five minutes it was nip and tuck before Limerick took the lead for the first time in the sixtieth minute.  The Shannonsiders had the better of the remaining period and won by four points.  For report see http://www.hill16.ie/viewstoryhill16.asp?id=11427&mainheading=Word+on+The+Hill&viewstory=yes

Crokes were honoured to have Niall Corcoran and Ross O’Carroll represent the club so well on the field in addition to selector Richard Stakelum who played a crucial behind the scenes role.  To all of them our sincere thanks and gratitude as well as to team doctor Chris Thompson who is also associated with club.

En route to the quarter final the under 12’s called in to Toomevarra where they went into an early lead and held the advantage throughout to win by 6-6 to 4-3.  For report check back later.

At the same time and same North Tipperary venue the Dublin South Under 15 squad played Limerick.  Crokes were represented by Conor J O’Dwyer, Conor O’Dwyer, Conor Devins, Matthew Geraghty, Caolan Conway, Daibhid Corish, Neil Gorey, Robert Murphy and James Murphy with Denis Gorey part of the management team.

On Saturday 25th July 2009 the minors traveled to Kilkenny to take on O’Loughlin Gaels.  A good competitive game had Crokes trailing 0-10 to 1-9 at the interval.  A strong second half display was enough to garner a 2-19 to 3-10 victory with defenders Paul Collins and Sean Murphy, forwards Naomhan O’Reardon (before his injury), Hugh Byrne (scorer of two fine points) and Mark O’Dwyer (especially in the second half) as well as substitute Emmet Doherty to the fore.  For report check back later.

On the same day the under 13’s took a squad to Bruff, Co Limerick for games in hurling and football against the locals.  In the hurling game Crokes trailed 1-1 after fifteen minutes when Conor Gowing‘s pointed free opened their account.  At the end of a close game the home side prevailed 2-2 to 0-6.

Squad - R Geraghty, S Rizvi, R Murphy, D Coakley, M McCallion, E Allen, S O’Hurley, S Keating, K O’Shea, S Barr, D Dagg, A O’Neill, N Sweeny, M Crowley, C Gowing, A Liffey and K Culligan

Meanwhile the under 10’s made the shorter trip to Swords to play Fingallians and had a comfortable victory.
