Seniors rech Semi Final

Just reward for the hard work by Morgan Lalor, his management team and the players over the past three years but it was not easily achieved.

The quarter final with Na Fianna on Saturday 27th September 2008 in Parnell Park went to the wire.  A third of the way through the game Crokes led 0-5 to 0-1.  The Glasnevin men reeled them in.  It was 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.  By the thirty sixth minute Na Fianna had reduced the margin to two and while Crokes led by five with five minutes of normal time to go they were relieved to hear the long whistle 0-14 to 0-12 to the good.  Among Crokes best performers were full back Dave Mahony, corner men Willie Ryan and Rory O’Carroll and midfielders Adrian Grogan and Fergal Armstrong.  Neil Casey and Ross O’Carroll were the pick of the forwards while substitutes Donal McGovern and Conor Clinton also made telling effects.  The semi final against Crumlin, impressive winners over Craobh Chiaran, is scheduled for the weekend of 11/12th October 2008.  For report click HERE

Intermediates beaten 2-17 to 1-07 by Nmh Barrog

Earlier in the afternoon the intermediates travelled to Pairc Barrog for a league tie that saw Naomh Barrog run out 2-17 to 1-7 winners.  A slow start left Crokes with too much to do, not helped by the spurning of a number of scoring opportunities.  Best for the visitors were Donal Monnelly, Aidan McCarthy, Brian Sheehan, who scored a good goal from a free, and Damien McSweeney.

Junior D's fail to overcome Parnells

On Sunday the Junior D’s outplayed Parnells in the first half of their league clash in Pairc de Burca and led 2-5 to 0-4 at the interval.  For the first fifteen minutes of the second half Crokes were still well in the game but eventually fitness told and the younger northside team finished stronger to win 3-12 to 2-8.  Best for Crokes were Niall McIntyre, Padraig Donahy, Shane Canny, Alan O’Connor, Barry Gavigan, Ian O’Keeffe and Nicholas Canny.

Team: N Canny, J Galvin, S O’Donaill, T McIntyre, N McIntyre, M Donnelly, Donal O’Dwyer, S Canny, P Donaghy, F O’Connor, A O’Connor, Declan O’Dwyer, I O’Keeffe, B Gavigan, D Morris.  Sub: F Keane for D O’Dwyer (inj)

U12B's beat St Sylvesters

In the other Sunday afternoon game the under 12B’s had a good 9-6 to 5-3 win over St. Sylvesters  in the league at Deerpark.  Crokes led 3-3 to 1-1 at half time.  Some early goals seemed to put them entirely in the driving seat but the Malahide team came back and, with several goals, made a game of it until Crokes again opened the scoring valve.  Among those to shine were Niall Sweeny, Barney Sultan, Ruairi Geraghty, Fionn Donnelly, Killian O’Shea, Ronan Kennedy and Stephen Barr.

Team (13 a-side): R Geraghty, F Donnelly, M Redmond, S Crowe, K O’Shea, S O’Hurley, D Dagg, B Sultan, S Barr, D Coakley, N Sweeny, R Kennedy, T Murphy.

Hurling Nursery

On its second Saturday since resumption the Hurling Nursery continued to attract large numbers.  Next Saturday the Nursery returns to Glenalbyn at 11.00am.  A meeting for new parents will be held in Glenalbyn on Thursday 2nd October.  For further information contact Niall Corcoran, Hurling Coach, 087-9834287.

All newcomers will begin their training with Niall Corcoran in “the new group” for a few weeks and then the older new players will be transferred into their appropriate age group. Existing under 6’s (born 2002) and under 7’s (born 2001) will train under Mark Lohan and Ken Hall, respectively. The boys born in 2003 will continue as a separate group and become the “new” Under 6’s at the beginning of 2009.

Communication with parents is by both e-mail and by text.  We strongly encourage parents to subscribe to our tacutext texting service in order to be kept fully informed of team notices, training news, change of venue/pick-up times, etc. specific to your son's group.  Each message you receive will cost you 20c.  The message will be sent to the phone from which the instruction is sent.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Niall Corcoran, Club hurling coach,  087 983 4287, niall.corcoran@gmail.com

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
