j0223791.gif At 5pm the seniors hosted St Vincents at Silverpark.  An early Ronan Walsh goal (the first of two) against the wind seemed to be the start the doctor ordered.  However the visitors crept back into it and, notwithstanding a good Crokes first half, led at the interval by 0-11 to 2-4.  With the advantage to come, Crokes turned around in confident mood but were only able to muster two second half points to the Marino men’s six and ended on the wrong end of a 2-6 to 0-17 scoreline.  Crokes leading players included Shane McNicholas, Adrian Grogan, who got a magnificent second half point, Shane O’Rorke, Ronan Walsh and Conor Clinton.

The Intermediates were away to O’Toole’s in AHL4.  A good first half performance saw them 1-5 to 0-4 ahead at the break, the goal coming from Damien McSweeney.  A tactical switch by the homesters, sending former Dublin senior, Damien Hernon, to full forward, where he scored two goals and a point, before Declan Browne moved back to curb him, turned the game and O’Tooles ran out 3-14 to 1-11 winners.  Apart from Browne, Darren McVeigh, Kevin Dalton, Liam Bourke and Cathal Brugha, especially in the second half, played well for Crokes.

Team: R Tighe, A McCarthy, A Hopkins, C Brugha, D McVeigh, D Browne, L Bourke, C Sheehan, D Moran, K Dalton, JR Hunt, S Canny, N Butler, B Sheehan, D McSweeney.  Subs: T O’Sullivan for S Canny, P Byrne for B Sheehan.

Under 13s action

The under 13A’s travelled to Gorey to take on the local Naomh Eanna under 14 team.  After a close and exciting game the Gorey lads finished marginally on top.  At Pairc Ui Bhriain the under 13B’s faced up to neighbours Noamh Olaf.  On the run of play Crokes could have been well clear at half time.  The home side took over in the second half and ran out convincing winners.  For report see HERE

Coláiste Eoin

Colaiste Eoin’s quest for All-Ireland glory fell at the final fence when they went down 3-12 to 1-10 to Ballycastle’s Cross and Passion in Newry in the All-Ireland Senior B Colleges Final.  Hard luck to all concerned and well done on a splendid year.  For report see HERE

Junior B’s win in Finbars

In AHL5 the Junior B’s traveled to John Paul Park to play Naomh Fionnbarra and came away with the points following a good display that saw them win 5-7 to 2-6.  In a very committed team performance Paddy Igoe was very solid at full back.  Fergus Monnelly had a great game at No.6.  John Ross Hunt was in superb form at centre forward while Brian Sheehan bagged 2-3.  The Junior D’s met a stronger, fitter Clontarf in their AHL8 clash in Silverpark and went down 3-11 to 0-6.  Prominent for Crokes were Padraig Doheny, Mark Donnelly, Gavin Hyland and Hugh Liston.

Under 12s

The under 12’s took two squads to participate in the Na Fianna tournament.  The A’s played James Stephens (Kilkenny), Na Piarsaigh (Cork) and the hosts and went down to each in a high quality tournament.  The B’s came second to Na Piarsaigh on score difference in their tournament.  For report see /Home/tabid/7975/ctl/Details/mid/11061/ItemID/1050/Default.aspx

Dubs draw with Clare

In the National Hurling League Division 1 tie at Parnell Park Dublin fought back from a four point deficit to share the points with Clare, 0-15 to 0-15.  Crokes Niall Corcoran played his part as Dublin brought their points tally to seven for the campaign with one game to go, away to Kilkenny in two weeks.  For report see HERE

Punchestown Corporate Race Day

The new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn was built at a cost of €500,000 and is a huge addition to hurling in the club.  It is entirely funded by the Hurling Section and we still have some way to go.  Regular users will have noticed some recent additions such as the installation of external lights, enhanced door security and cameras.

Our sixth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day takes place in Punchestown on Tuesday 28th April 2009 and proceeds go towards the cost of the Arena.  All previous Punchestown Race Days have been extremely successful both financially and as social events.  Anybody who has attended will well and truly vouch for the brilliant day out it is.

While we have got fantastic support from within and without the club, we still have some way to go to clear the debt and this year we are asking each team to support the Race Day on Tuesday 28th April next by organising a group (e.g. players, mentors, parents, partners, supporters) to take a table.   Please contact your team mentor to book a place.  This will make a real difference to the bottom line, really make a club day out of it and help integrate the various hurling strands within the club.   Donations or spot prizes are of course also very welcome.

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
