Five in a Row for the U14s

In an absolute cracker of a match our under 14 girls added to their Feile success earlier this year with a victory in the Div 1 championship against a gallant St Brigids team. In doing so they proved that they are still the team to beat in the county. The game started poorly for the girls with the concession of an early penalty which was converted and matters got worse as Brigids threatened to completely overrun the girls and deservedly lead by 9 points at half time 3-7 to 2-1.-our goals coming from Mia and Lauren. In defence Liz showed up well and stopped further scores.
 
A half time rallying of the troops from Tony, Joan, Denis and some straight talking from Johnny paid dividends and at the start of the second half the girls showed their mettle. We started to win the individual battles with the half back line of Muireann, Sarah and Amy, midfield engine room of Aoife and Lauren and up front Holly and Mia all showing well. However despite owning possession we could not convert our dominance (woodwork denying us twice) until mid way through the second half when a three goal blitz in 8 minutes from Holly, and the two Caoimhes put us a point up. The lead changed hands three times in the last hectic five minutes and Brigids thought that they finally won it with an injury time goal. However 20 second later and with virtually the last kick of the game Lauren Magee blasted to the net after an excellent kick out from Katie to Mia who ran with the ball and transferred to Lauren on the burst. Another Holly goal and a fantastic point on the run from captain Aoife put us in control at half time in extra time and we went on to win it in style. The final score line does not do justice to an excellent and brave Brigids team.
 
This was an outstanding team performance by the girls who never gave up and their record of 5 championships (under 10,11,12,13 and now 14),  and the Dublin Feile Div 1 for the first time in the clubs history is testament to the character of this team and the quality of the Management team of Tony, Joan, Denis and Johnny. Well done girls and management!
