U9 Match ReportMatch Report - 26th April - u9 girls

What a contrast in weather to our attempted home games two weeks ago, as one u9 KC team hosted Thomas Davis at home and three teams descended on Clanna Gael Fontenoy last Sunday. After a somewhat giddy warm-up, the girls settled well into their games and truly showed the opposition what we are made of. Our girls fought for every ball, chased every opponent down and shadowed and tackled with gusto. Our kicks were strong and accurate, often making their way from the goal or defence all the way up to the forwards, totally bypassing the midfielders. Teamwork was superb on Sunday, with our girls deliberately seeking out a teammate in a better position to pass to and hence we maintained possession much more than the opposition.

The teams were all very well matched – we were pushed hard, but challenged back equally well. The scores were high all round and we had countless near misses too – going just wide or hitting the crossbar, but the attempts were plentiful and that's what counts!

Well done to the girls who played their first match on Sunday – that's an achievement in itself. Thanks also to the parents who chipped in with pitch set-up and photography. What a team!
