Parents Information Meeting 15/10/11

Body

A meeting was held for Parents of New Players (those born in 2005/2004/2003/2002) on Saturday 15th October. Information was given regarding the structure of the club, nursery setup and other important details that new parents need to be aware of.

Introductions

Introductions were made to Pat Fenlon and Anne Noctor. Pat is the Head Coach in the Camogie nursery. He has three daughters, two of whom are now playing in the nursery and U10 teams. The youngest daughter will join us shortly. Pat joined Kilmacud Crokes about 20 years ago and has been prominently involved in the Executive and Hurling Committees along with the Camogie section. Anne has been playing Camogie for Kilmacud since her juvenile days and has been involved with the coaching and administration for a long number of years also.

The Structure of the Club

Briefly explained, Kilmacud Crokes has a Camogie Section, Ladies Football, Hurling, Football and Coiste na nOg. Coiste na nOg cater for boys hurling and football up to the age of 12. Each section operate independently financially and administratively but report to the Kilmacud Crokes GAA Executive Committee which has overall control .

The Camogie section is affiliated to Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael and the Ladies Football is affiliated to Cumann Peil na mBan, both of which are completely separate from the GAA. Both Camogie and Ladies Football pay their insurance, registration and affiliation fees to their respective associations. This explains why if your daughter plays both codes, you will be asked to subscribe to both sections separately.

We use grounds in Glenalbyn, Silverpark, Oatlands, Deerpark and UCD for matches and training.

Help Required for Sign In

You will have noticed that there are people taking names at the sign in every week. These are parents who have volunteered to participate in a rota to do this job. We need new parents every year as a group of parents move on every year with their children out of nursery. If you volunteer, your name might come up 3 or 4 times in the year, at most.

Please text Anne (087 2226949) if you are willing to go on this rota. The rota is then posted up on the website so you can check regularly when you are due on.

Coaches/Managers

We have two Club Coaches who are employed on a full time basis– Niall Corcoran and Padraig McDonald. All others involved in administration, coaching and other areas operate on a voluntary basis.

We welcome anybody who has any interest in getting involved in coaching or assistant coaching. Your child will benefit from your involvement and you do not need to have any hurling/Camogie experience. You will be well supported by the existing coaches. Please let Pat (087 2352087) know of your interest.

Safety at Nursery

We have noticed the large number of very small children who are borrowing hurleys and balls and are playing around the paddock during training times. While we think it is great to see children being active and interested, we have to restrict that practice for safety purposes. The children in the nursery must have their helmets on before they enter the paddock and start playing, and so it is unsafe to have smaller children playing there with no protection. We have allocated a small area just inside the gate where small children and parents can watch proceedings but they cannot play with the hurleys. They are not insured if they get injured. We would appreciate your help in enforcing this.

Dresscode

Please dress your children warmly during cold weather. We will not cancel training if the weather is cold – only if it is very wet or snowy like last winter. If your child is cold starting out, she will not be interested in playing. Use plenty of zip off layers and light gloves to keep hands warm. Football gloves are not suitable. Zip off layers are useful so we don’t have to take off helmets to take off a layer!!!

Equipment.

Each child need their own hurley and helmet and shinguards are also useful to prevent the odd knock on the legs! We provide a number of hurleys and helmets for very new players. Do not take this as an ongoing arrangement for your child.

Subscriptions

Your subscription will be due at the end of January. Maria O Hurley is our Registrar and she will give you plenty of notice.

We use group texting to inform you of any meetings, changes to training times etc as much as possible.
