Coast For Crokes 25,508km Travelled / €44,218 Raised For Charity

Body

The third weekend of May 2020 will live long in the memory as one of the great club weekends. With all Gaelic Games on hiatus for the last 10 weeks, the #CoastForCrokes event was the first time many club members got to wear their Purple & Gold and take part in a club activity since early March.

The community responded en force and South Dublin became flooded with runners, walkers, cyclists and pets donning the Purple & Gold and contributing to our goal of traveling the distance of Irelands coastline (3,000km). The scale of participation was unprecedented, with close to 2,000 members pictured wearing Purple & Gold.

Members took it upon themselves to undertake difficult challenges over the weekend. We had many people running either marathons or half marathons for the first time, others walked a 3am half marathon and one individual ran 100km over the two days.

It was therefore no surprise that together as a community we smashed all predictions and covered an incredible 25,508km or 8 laps of Ireland! More importantly, the generosity of the community became very apparent as €44,218 has been raised to date, with proceeds donated to Laura Lynn Childrens Hospice, Pieta House and Breast Cancer Ireland.

Thanks to everyone for playing their part and bringing the colour to an unforgettable weekend. We were grateful to have strong participation from past and present members, along with the ever committed M2M cyclists.

A big thanks also to the organisers who were the driving force behind the weekends success. Well done to Martin Byrne, Simon Deane, Molly Lamb, Eadaoin Herlihy and Paul Collins.
