The Colin Baker Foundation Raising Awareness Against Suicide and self harm.

The Colin Baker Foundation was set up in 2012 after the death of Colin Baker by suicide.Colin was a  Kilmacud Crokes man through and through and played football and hurling from the age of six. His first love was hurling and he and his siblings David and Alison have played on many teams over the years. Tragically Colin succumbed to that darkest of moments and died on the 11th June 2012.

His friends wanted to help raise awareness and decided to support Pieta House by raising funds through a special night And so The Light Ball was first launched in October 2012. And two months later Seven hundred and fifty people attended a black tie ball in Doubletree by Hilton (Aka The Burlo) raising an amazing €51500.00.

There now has been three balls in Dublin and last week Eight hundred and forty attended a sold out ball and raised €70000.00 for Pieta House.

This event is currently held every two years and it gets better each time. This years event was hosted by Eoghan McDermott of 2FM and guest appearances from the Dublin Gospel choir and the Sam Maguire accompanied by our very own Paul Mannion and Cuala’s Michael Fitzsimmons added to a spectacular evening.

Michael and Will Magee two of Colin’s friends original members of the Light Ball committee emigrated to Sydney Australia and this October one thousand people attended the second Sydney Light Ball. There is a huge amount of Irish in Sydney and the support for this event has been outstanding. The Sydney event splits their funds raised between Pieta house and Batyr a like minded group based in Sydney.

To date the Light Ball events have raised over €320000.00, of which €250000.00 has been donated to Pieta House. We hope to continue raising awareness of suicide and self harm into the future. So here's to the next Light Ball.
