Under 11 Boys Hurling Away Trip Clarinbridge

Body

24 players and parents, coaches and supporters travelled independently to Clarinbridge in Galway on Sunday morning the 20th June. A Father’s Day trip with a difference!

We arrived by 10.30am and our hosts had two pitches lined out with their senior hurlers finishing training early to accommodate us.

Covid protocols, check-in and sanitation procedures were adhered to and completed before we got things underway.

We lined out two balanced teams of 12 drawn from our three go games panels. The majority attending were our Sunday morning session regulars who have worked hard since activity resumed.

A total of four matches were played with our two teams taking on similarly balanced Clarinbridge selections.

The visitors prevailed in all four matches with the work done twice a week since restart (coupled with some local challenge matches in Dublin) paying dividends.

We met some fine hurlers in our opposition, and we imagine that if a return visit is paid later in the year that the outcome could well be reversed.

In any event we were also treated to socially distanced refreshments after the games that had everyone nicely fed and watered.

We hit the road home by 1.30 pm but the fun wasn’t over.

We had booked an afternoon of outdoor activities at the Lilliput adventure centre in Lough Ennell in Westmeath.

The players and families partook in kayaking upon Lough Ennell and laser tag shootout in the nearby forests.

The players enjoyed targeting their coaches, in and out of the water.

Of course, we finished our very enjoyable trip with the customary stop in Supermacs in sunny Kinnegad.

Thank you to all involved in the organization of the day and to all those who travelled down.

A special thanks to Damien O’Brien and the juvenile mentors and parents in Clarinbridge for laying on the welcome.

A great day of hurling, fun and near normality.

KC Purple & Gold teams won all four games comfortably against Clarinbridge.
