Volkswagen All-Ireland Senior Football Sevens Launch

Volkswagen All-Ireland Senior Football Sevens launched with the help of Sean Cavanagh, 3-time All-Ireland winner with Tyrone, and former Dublin GAA star and Kilmacud Crokes clubman Kevin Nolan to officially launch this year’s tournament, which will take place in Kilmacud Crokes GAA club on Saturday 16th September, on the eve of the All-Ireland football final.

For over forty years, Kilmacud Crokes along with the support of neighboring grounds Glenalbyn, Silver Park and Naomh Olaf’s Pairc ui Bhriain, have hosted Ireland's premier sevens competition, the All-Ireland Football Sevens. Now a unique and permanent fixture in the GAA calendar, top teams from around the country will descend on the Stillorgan club to compete for the All-Ireland title that has been won by some of the most successful clubs in Ireland, including teams such as St. Galls (Antrim) and Corofin (Galway).

Volkswagen Sevens TV will also make a very welcomed return again this year and will be showcasing the tournament’s most compelling match moments shown via their social media channels throughout the day so people can keep up with the on-field action even if they are unable to attend the event itself. The highlights will also be shown on the giant screen at Kilmacud Crokes along with additional footage such as player and legend interviews will be showcased in the afternoon.

Gerrit Heimberg, Director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “All-Ireland final week is always a very special, unique time in the Irish sporting calendar and we are very excited to be a part of the All Ireland Senior Football Sevens this weekend in Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club. We are especially pleased to be able to provide Volkswagen Sevens TV once more as we know it was a very popular feature last year, providing people across the country with a chance to see the highlights in near real time. We have 35 dealers nationwide and can see first-hand the important role the GAA plays in communities across Ireland. I would like to wish all teams the very best of luck.”

Speaking at the launch of the competition Sean Fox, Chairman of Kilmacud Crokes Football, “We are very proud of the long and successful history associated with this tournament. The interest and popularity of the competition has grown annually and it’s great to have an iconic brand such as Volkswagen on board again this year. I am really looking forward to seeing some fantastic football skill coming out in full force today”

Throw in for the first game takes place at 10.30am on Saturday 16th September and each team will play a minimum of three games before the winners’ advance towards the final event which takes place that evening in front of a full house of Sevens supporters.
