Kilmacud Crokes today announced a three year deal with FBD, one of Ireland's largest insurers, for the Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Football Sevens competition, the premier GAA 7s competition held annually, on the day before the All Ireland Football Final.

The sponsorship is for three years and adds to the already impressive FBD sponsorship portfolio which includes the FBD Connacht League, The FBD Barton Cup and several new initiatives in the areas of tennis and cycling to be announced over the coming months.

The competition will now be known as the FBD All Ireland Football 7s.

At the announcement in the Kilmacud Crokes clubhouse in Glenalbyn, Stillorgan were representatives from Kilmacud Crokes and FBD as well as a number of high profile inter county and Kilmacud Crokes footballers.

2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Kilmacud 7s competition and the agreement is seen by both Kilmacud Crokes and FBD as a key partnership in driving the competition forward for another 40 years.

Speaking at the announcement, John Shovlin, Kilmacud Crokes Football Chairman, commented: "This is a huge coup for Kilmacud Crokes. At a time when businesses are looking to cut costs and scale back, to receive the backing of FBD in the current climate is wonderful for the club and indeed for the competition.

We are equally encouraged by the fact that FBD have shown a commitment to invest in the competition and we look forward to the next three years and hopefully beyond that again.

On All Ireland Football Final weekend, the FBD All Ireland Football 7s will continue to celebrate the best of Gaelic Football and on this its 40th anniversary we hope to add a few new items to Clár an Lae.

I look forward to welcoming you all along to Glenalbyn on the 22nd September"

Sean Fox, Broker Development Manager with FBD and also a member of Kilmacud Crokes said: "FBD is delighted to announce its title sponsorship of the Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Football 7s and particularly this year being the 40th year of the competition.

Now over 40 years in business, FBD's commitment to Irish sport is set to continue as we expand our sponsorship within the GAA arena, from the well established FBD Connacht League, to the new FBD All Ireland Football 7s at Kilmacud.

As an Irish company, we recognise the important role the GAA has playedin both the rural and urban life of this country.  We applaud their ongoing contribution and that of clubs such as Kilmacud Crokes who epitomise all that is good at club level within the organisation.

We will work closely with the club to develop even further the status and regard associated with this "all-island" event"

The draw for the 2012 FBD All Ireland Football 7s will be made in Croke Park on Tuesday 11th September 2012 and details will also be announced with regard to additional activity as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations.

This year's tournament which takes place on Saturday, 22nd September in and around Kilmacud, will see the best club teams from all over the country travel to compete and try to wrestle the trophy away from 2011 champions Bryansford.

Teams qualify for the prestigious tournament by either winning their county championship or by invitation.
