A GREAT YEAR FOR MINOR B TEAM

A GREAT YEAR FOR MINOR B TEAM

Every year, hundreds of young lads pull on a jersey and represent themselves, their team, their parents and their Club.   In September, we may be lucky enough to see some of them graduate to the highest stage, in All Ireland Finals. But every week, there are little stories of teams that stand out.  Last week, it was the turn of our Minor B footballers.

Born in 95, 96, 97, these lads deserve a mention on the club site for all that they, as a squad, have achieved this season. They were unbeaten in the league so when it came to September they were bumped up to the county C championship.

Meeting A teams (except for Castleknock B's) they won all their matches at the group stage. Progressing to the Quarter final, they met local rivals (and for several of the team their own school pals) – St. Olafs. It was a balmy Sunday morning in late October in Silverpark. Olaf's attacked well in the first 20 minutes but Crokes settled and overtook them, winning this very sporting match convincingly.

The Semi-final promised to be a tough outing. In the group stage Crokes had cut it fine in Pairc de Burca, scraping a win over a very physical St. Mary's by the smallest possible margin. The teams met again but this time Crokes were fully ready and there was no doubt they belonged in the Final. Ultimately Raheny proved to be a step too far in the second half of the final, but what a rollarcoaster.!

With great focus, the lads continued their commitment to training and two weeks later took the League Final in style. To read the match report click here.

The team is managed by Michael Kelly, and coached by Francis Hanrahan with Arthur McMahon supporting. By all accounts they've enjoyed the year too:

"this squad are a credit to the club and it was a pleasure working with them for the year – hopefully they will continue to play for Kilmacud in 2014  at minor and adult level" Michael

' the whole squad was a joy to work with, they showed great spirit and passion throughout the season and got what they deserved. From a management point of view, we enjoyed the journey immensely, watching these lads improve, develop and deliver on their potential. Our hope is that they continue playing football in the Adult section of the club" Francis.

In Adult football, they will be a welcome addition to both numbers and quality across the Adult Football Leagues.  Some will be heading, in time,  for our first senior team, some will take a longer route and some will make sure we continue to field 5 adult teams and continue to benefit from the work they have put in over the last dozen years.  Here's to the next Dozen!!!
