A LOOK BACK AT SEVENS 2013

Body

The Kilmacud FBD Sevens 2013 will go down in history as one of the most enjoyable ever.  The football was terrific; there was no shortage of drama (including penalties!); the losers of last year's event (Corofin) turned over their most gallant and sporting conquerors (St Galls) in this year's final, and the weather was heavenly!  What more could the 41st Sevens have asked for?  Of course you can get all of the results and other details on our dedicated Sevens web-site at any time (click 'FBD 7s' on menu above).

The Sevens is still a great place to be on the eve of The Football Final, not only for participating teams and officials but also for proud club members, families, visitors, etc.  We were particularly honoured to have two legends of the game present on the sidelines, happy in their relative anonymity. James McCartan and Felix McNight, two famous Gaels, were happily renewing acquintances in Glenalbyn.  James had travelled from his native Mourne county, but Dr Felix had travelled all the way from Perth, Western Australia where he now lives, with his two grandsons. James a bustling Down forward and Felix a rock solid Armagh fullback had many a battle in the Ulster Championships in the 50s and 60s.  James, father of current Down manager James Jnr, captured 2 All Ireland Senior Footbal medals in 1960 and 1961. The Sevens was Felix's grandsons' first ever attendance at a gaelic football match and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves (see photo below).  James and Felix, who also happen to be brothers-in-law, enjoyed the banter and recalled their famous rivalry on a beautiful sunny day.  Lovely to have you in Kilmacud guys!
