Three wins out of three for 2004 Footballers 29/03/2014

The Crokes u/10 footballers had 3 victories over the weekend. KC1 came out comfortably on top  against Ballyboden in Sancta Maria , KC2 had 2 good wins against Ballinteer while KC4 overcame tough opposition in Thos Davis in Kiltipper Rd. KC3s  game unfortunatly fell foul of pitch closures.

KC1   7 - 22  v  Ballyboden  0-1
In game one on Saturday morning KC1 gave an excellent display of point scoring against our old rivals Ballyboden. To make the performance even better was the amount of tackles and blocks the boys put in , something they have been practicing hard at in training.  In a competitive 1st half the Crokes lads had a few late scores to go in 1-6 to 0-1 up at half time . In the 2nd half the floodgates opened in panel 1s best display of the season.
It will not always be like this against Ballyboden!

KC1  2-8  v  Ballyboben  3-9
In game 2 , a much closer affair against a stronger Ballyboden panel resulted in a narrow defeat for Crokes . Leading at half time Crokes played excellently throughout the game only fading in the end . This was not helped by going down a player towards the end , an injury not a sending off!
Again the tackling and blocking were some of the highlights among many.

Overall result Kilmacud  9 - 30 (99)  v  Ballyboden  3- 10 (33)

 KC2team1 (42pts) v Ballinteer (30pts)
On a miserable wet morning we witnessed the best team performance we have seen to date from our spirited and skilfull bunch of lads.

St Johns started very strongly adapting much better to the weather conditions, the narrow pitch + the bad bounce of the all weather pitch.  They scored some fine points + it looked like we might suffer a heavy defeat.  However, the lads never let their heads drop + even though Ballinteer were the much the better side +we went in at half time only 5pts down (17-12).

Crokes started the second half fantastically well,  winning the ball freely, passing well + getting some great scores.  They  had soon overhauled St Johns who credit to them never gave up + even though they were now being  outclassed they still picked off some good scores. The final score was 42pts to 30pts.

The most satisfying part of this victory was the spirit each+ everyone of our lads showed. Special praise has to  go to Eoin Keyes + John Gilsenan both of whom had already played a match, not that it showed.

KC2 team2 (3-11 ) v Ballinteer (0-4 )
Weather was poor on Saturday morning in Ballinteer but there was no stopping the Crokes playing some great football.
The boys started well from the throw in and were up 9points by half time, thanks to Luca Merriman, Joe Morrisey, Sean O'Connor and Paul Dalton's great tackling and clearance kicks up the wings.
A strong and energetic performance in midfield by Sean Horan and Rory Kelly led to great scoring opportunities, the boys covered a lot of ground in defence and attack.
The scores kept coming with Jamie O'Shea(2nd game that day!), Andrew Grace and Ryan Bracken putting the Ballinteer defence under pressure resulting in some great scores and a good win.
We asked the boys to run on and attack the ball which they did really well. We need to keep looking up before we kick and to play to the wings to create more space.
As special mention for Sean Horan who kicked some great passes on his weaker left foot, you have been practicing this in training Sean and it shows. Com'on the Crokes.

Crokes U/10 Football 15/03/2014

KC1 (team1) 1-9  v  N Olafs  0-8
On a very windy morning for football, Crokes came out on top against our close neighbours in a real "game of 2 halves".
Playing into a gale in the first half  , despite the great efforts of Enda Kickam , Tim O Donnell , Michael Sullivan and Gavin Bane we found ourselves 0-7 to 0-1 down at the interval.
The 2nd half was a complete reversal with Crokes camped in their Sandyford neighbours half and the scores duly followed from Rory O Kane ,Oisin Tienan, Danny Killeen and Mark McGorisk. Lorcan Deering was excellent in  goal particularly with his distribution. Olafs could not get past midfield  due to strong play from Michael Brennan and Theo Lenehan.
Well done to all the boys for playing so well on a very difficult day for football and showing great spirit in turning around such a half time deficit.

KC1 (team2)  2-6  v  N Olafs  0-0
Playing into the gale in the first half Crokes fought like tigers to go in at the break level  with neither side managing a score. This was a great effort and it was to prove so in the second half as Crokes turned their dominance into scores  and ran out comfortable winners on the day.
The bulk of the hard work was done in the first half with a great defensive performance
The team was , Jamie O Shea , Vova O Toole , Cian Brown , Andrew Dillon , Robert Hough . Jack Burke ,Sean O Hurley , Eoghan Kennedy , Adam Fearon and Shane Brady

KC2 (team1)  0-11  v  Round Tower 2-2
Team-Gavin Bermingham,Sean Horan,David Hyland,Eoin Keyes,Ruardhi Mc Donachada,Louis Mc Gauren,Joe Morrissey,Dan Murphy,Tomas Noone,

On a very windy morning we took on Round Towers in Stepaside all weather pitch. We played with the benefit of the wind in the first half and made the best of conditions leading by 0-8 to 1-2 at half time. During this first half the boys played well with some good passages of play with good passing and score taking. We knew we were going to have our work cut out for us in the second half as the Round Towers boys now had the benefit of a strong wind. The boys played very well in this half and defended so well that they kept a good Round Towers Team to only scoring one goal while still tagging on 3 points of our own.All in all this was a good performance with lots of high catching and good running off the ball.

KC2 (team2)  2-10  v  Round Towers  1-3
A very strong team performance from Kilmacud Crokes on a windy day in Stepaside.  We were against the wind in the first half but, still scored 4 points unanswered. What was particularly pleasing was how we got first to the ball more often than not + when we didn't we tackled well + won the ball back.

The 2nd half was all one traffic + the lads combined well to score another 2 goals +6 pts unanswered
Colm Lyndon put in a captains performance with Oisin McCann, Rory Kelly + Terry Jones all winning lots of ball,  tackling + passing the ball well.  Shane Gallagher , Ryan Bracken  Sean O'Connor  + Andrew Grace  all also won + distributed the ball well.
I was very proud of the boys they put the best team performance I have seen yet.

KC4 (team1) 0-6 -1 (19)  v  St Judes 1-11-4 (38)
Team – Joshua Scallan, Billy Kelly, Thomas Doran, James Hamill, Joe Broderick, Keelan Murphy, Mathew Blanker, Cian Merriman, Diarmuid Deegan, Joe Lockhart

KC played St Judes at Stepaside on Saturday 15th March. The sun was shining, but there was a very strong wind blowing, so much so that it meant that both teams struggled at times. KC had the wind at their backs for the first half and started strongly, but St Judes were better able to adapt to the conditions and they finished the first half 1 point ahead. In the 2nd half St Judes kept the ball in the KC half for long periods and despite good defending, they were able to extend their lead and win the game.

KC4 (team 2 )  2-6-1 (21)  v St Judes 4-7-0 (25)
A strong swirling wind greeted both teams there on Saturday Morning in Stepaside.

Team B : were ready for the challenge. Playing with the wind in the 1st half our boys didn't have it all their own way playing a skilful and competitive St Judes.

Our defence of Hugh, Jack and Aaron with Daire in Goal did a fine job, blocking very well and getting the ball to our midfield. Dylan tackled admirably and linked well with Conor Vaughan and Sean Aherne

Who all scored some fine points from play and Sean scoring a great point from a free. David too got in on the act with Cathal and John terrorising their defense.

One point up at the start, we knew we had a stiff challenge against the wind in the 2nd half. Hugh moved up in attack and John switched and showed his battling ability in defense with Jack doing a great job in Goal. Coming out to clear or getting those vital long kicks up the pitch into the strong wind.

St Judes too had some very fine players and got their noses in front with 2 goals. Our boys battled, Sean leaped forward with a High catch (Bonus Point) and

another fine point for us and then no scores for a long period. Our discipline was exemplary again on the day and only for the strong wind we could have got 2-3 more points with the chances we had.

Alas, in the last couple of moments as all tired, St Judes scored a point with another quick score right after, to leave it at

Kilmacud Crokes 21 pts (2-6-1) and St Judes 25 pts (4-7)
Team-

Sean Aherne, Aaron Golden, John Linehan, Jack Nolan, David O'Reilly, Hugh Reid, Dylan Saunders, Cathal Sullivan, Daire Sullivan, Conor Vaughan

High Scoring Saturday for u/10 Footballers (01/03/14)

The Crokes u/10 footballers had a very good and high scoring day last Saturday 1st March . We won 3 out of 4 two team match ups.

KC1 proved too strong for our northside opponents St Peregrines in Clonsilla .

KC2 won both games against Templeogue SS and KC3 had too much for Liffey Gaels .

KC4 drew the short straw this week and lost out to Ballyboden in Sancta Maria. It did not help that we were short 1 or 2 of our stronger players.

Please see match reports below.

KC1

Game 1  :    Kilmacud Crks 1    2 - 10  V  St Peregrines 1 - 5

In game one Crokes came up against a very game home side in Blakestown. In a tightly contested 1st half  thanks to superb play from Michael Sullivan , Shane Brady , Danny Killeen and Tim O Donnell we went in at the break 1-3 to 0-2 ahead.

A good start to the 2nd half from Captain Rory O Kane , Enda Kickam and Adam Fearan pushed us well ahead until our opponents had a purple patch scoring 1-2 in a row.

Just when it was most needed great scores and play from Jack Higgins , Oisin Tiernan and Theo Lenehan brought us over the line .

Highlights of the games was the tackling and blocking with Michael Sullivan alone making 5 or 6 great blocks.

Well done to all the boys on a very good display on a lovely morning for football.

Game 2  :Kilmacud Crks 1    9 - 9  V  St Peregrines 3 - 1

Our lads had a very good win against  Peregrines today with a score line of  9 - 9  to 3-1. We started well and despite missing some easy chances we took the lead from early on.

We worked hard to win possession and tried to use it constructively once in possession. Our defence was excellent for the entire game conceding very little scores in the second half in particular.

We put together some good passing moves and as the game went on we started to move the ball quickly from defence to attack.  Our forwards took some great scores and it was great to see most of our lads getting on the score board.

Every player on the panel contributed to the great win and if we continue to work on our team work, the basic skills in training and at home we will achieve our full potential.

The team was Owen Kennedy, Vova O Toole, Michael Brennan,  Jamie O Shea, Jack Burke, Andrew  Dillon, Mark McGorish, Sean O Hurley, Hugh Kearney, Gavin Bane  and Lorcan Deering.

Hugh Kearney secured one skill point for an over head catch and he deserves special mention for this and his over all performance. Our top scorer Jamie O Shea worked hard and Lorcan Deering gave a great display in goals, he played with confidence and distributed the ball very well.

KC 2

KC2 (team 1)  1-13 v Templeogue SS  1-5

Perfect weather conditions and a great game of football in Deerpark this afternoon against Templeogue.

We were tested in the first 10minutes with a strong Templeogue attack. Our defence of Oisin McCann, John Gilsenan and Luca Merriman stayed touch tight and Thomas Noone's quick kick outs from goal turned the tide. A competitive midfield performance from Eoin Keys, Dan Murphy and Louis McGauren led to plenty of scoring oportunities. Sean Bradley, David Hyland and Gavin Birmingham's took their chances on front of goal and marked Templeogue defenders well on their kick outs. A very strong performance from KC2 team1 who really competed for every 50/50 breaking ball, we will keep working on our high catches and get into the habit of earning bonus points. Well done lads!

KC2 (team 2)  2-8  V Templeogue SS  1-2

The whole team played excellent. Having had little or no football over the last couple of weeks, the boys were full of enthusiasm.

From the very start our boys got on top and dominated in all positions. All the boys played in a variety of positions on the day.

There were fine displays from Paul Dalton, Terry Jones, Joe Morrissey and Sean O'Connor in defence who only conceded 3 scores for the whole game.

Colm Lyndon, Shane Gallagher, Andrew Grace and Ryan Bracken excelled in attack and defended from the front.

Ruaidhri MacDonnacha and Sean Horan marshalled the middle of the pitch. Ruaidhri made a great high catch when under pressure.

There were great examples of communication between the boys on the day talking to each other and telling each other what needed to be done.

Score of the game came from Colm who tackled an opposition player, disposed him and slotted the ball over the bar.

KC3

KC 3 (team 1)  8 -13 V  Liffey Gaels 2 - 0

On a lovely Saturday morning Panel 3 had a strong start to season with some fine football played by  Eoin, Henry and Mikey in defence all getting to the ball first and doing some great bursting runs out. Robbie, Joe and Irial made some great catches and distributed really well in the middle of the park while Tom, Callum and David in his first game ever!!! all passed and moved into space really well and took some very good scores. The lads kept the intensity right to the very end and got more even more passing going as the game progressed.

Final Score Crokes 8 goals and 13  overs (47) versus 2 goals

KC3 (team 2)  3-14  V  Liffey Gaels 1 - 9

Our first match back for 2014 proved a lively affair and both teams played with a real gusto from the start. Crokes did all the early pressing however Liffey Gaels were doing all the registering on the score board. Stephen settled the team with some excellent scores from play. Ivan steadied the defence and Luke continued his good form upfront.

Coming up to half time Liffey Gaels still had the lead with Crokes leveling up with some fine scores from Thomas and Adam just before the break.

The second half showed a marked improvement, however, Liffey Gaels were proving a hard act to shake off. There was some excellent blocking and catches from both sides. Oliver started to impose and got some great scores ably assisted by Matthew in mid-field.Theo and Ivan played solidly throughout the game and the scores started to come from Thomas,Stephen and Oliver.

All told, a solid start to the New Year and Liffey Gaels can be proud of their performance against a game Crokes team.

KC4

KC4 (team 1) 1 -8 (23)  V  Ballyboden  3 - 8 (25)

KC Panel 4 had 2 tough games against Ballyboden on Saturday 1st March. The games were played on the Astro pitch in Ballyboden and it was great for the boys to finally start their Go-Games season, after all the recent bad weather.

In the first game – the team was Joshua Scallan, Billy Kelly, Sean Aherne, Jack Nolan, Cathal Sullivan, Diarmuid Deegan, Cian Merriman, Dylan Saunders, Joe Broderick and James Hamill. This was an end to end game between two very evenly matched teams. KC missed a few early chances which opened the door for Ballyboden, who scored more of their early chances. However, the KC team, lead brilliantly by Billy Kelly, the captain on the day, never let Ballyboden get too far ahead of them. KC put on a strong show at the end of the first half to close the gap to 2 points at half time with some good scores by Joshua and James. In the second half Ballyboden started very quickly but were denied by excellent defending and some brilliant goalkeeping by Sean Ahearne. In the end, 2 late scores by KC in the final 60 seconds almost saw them snatch victory, but the referee blew for full time and the final score was KC 1-8 (23), BB 3-8 (25). I reckon an additional 1 minute would have seen KC get an extra point to win it!

KC4 (team 2)

In the second match, the KC team was Thomas Doran, David Colbert,Keelan Murphy, David O Reilly,Conor Vaughan, Aaron Golden ,Hugh Reid, Daire Sullivan and John Linehan. The boys came up against a very strong Ballyboden and worked very hard in the first half to keep the match as close as possible. KC got some good scores and finished the first half with 3 goals and a point. In the second half the Ballyboden team got off to a fast start and built up a strong lead and the KC team were unable to catch them. The game finished with a win for Ballyboden, but it was a good workout for the team with plenty of experienced gained.

U10 Football trip to Mullingar

Double for Crokes u/10s and Dubs in Mullingar !

The Crokes u/10s had their first "away day" of the season last Sunday when they travelled to Mullingar to take on the local St Lomans club .
As all fixtures fell through the previous day the boys were raring to go and get their first "real" games of the season

In the first game thanks to the super efforts of Tom Walsh , Luca Merriman , James Hamill and Dave Hyland , a very exciting and competitive game ended in a draw.
Playing the second St Lomans outfit our boys were determined to get a victory and that is just what they did thanks in the main to great performances from Dan Murphy , John Gilsenan , Tom Doran ,Vova O Toole and Sean Bradley.

Team 2 also played our hosts in 2 very keenly fought encounters.
In their opening game the teams were tied at 4pts a piece at half time but thanks in the main  to Eoin Keys , Danny Killeen , Jamie O Shea  and Luke O Gorman we pulled away in the second half.
In game 2  , after a sluggish start (their minds must have been on the food after) we recorded a comfortable win .
Thomas Downey , Oisin Tiernan ,Shane Brady, Eoin Kenny  and Hugh Kearney were outstanding in this game.

After the games we enjoyed much needed soup , sandwiches and treats from our hosts and then it was time to head off and cheer on the "boys in blue" to a hard earned victory against Westmeath .
With Dublin winning it made a record of 4 wins and a draw  for the day . Good day,s work!
