Kilmacud Crokes 6 - 12  2 - 09 Ballyboden

The Minor B "Clubman" project continued with the 16Bs joining the summer remnants to produce another stunning performance, in two games 12-20! Captain Pete Moloney improving on his hat trick with 3-6 of the 6-12 total.

Family member Robert Cahill made a winning return to playing (man of the match in the 16D championship win) with some stunning saves and a great physical presence in goals.

John Egan again impressed at full back, continuing the great Egan family line (who will appear together on Tuesday in AFL7).

Fintan Jordan once again arose, Lazarus like, from his sick bed to join jet lagged Jack Farrelly, who also weighed in with a point from the back.

Des Dagg again brought his huge hurling presence to centre back.

On a beautiful morning for football, Conor McNicholas and Mattie Hogan showed their free flowing skills.

So what happens when you bring in a bunch of Under 16s to play in  Minor B league Matches against two other top GAA club's B teams?

Answer?  They raise the standard and smile their way to 12 goals and twenty points!  The Boden Manager, who had led his team to a first defeat of league leaders, the Olaf's first team, said his team were "out muscled" by a lively skilled Kilmacud Crokes team.  High praise indeed.

Cormac McGrory has played several times and never looked out of place. Rory Fitzpatrick has an eye for goal and caused mayhem in attack. Alex Kinahan showed he can take a punch and come up smiling!  Calum Raftery too stood up to be counted.

Although the league is now beyond the team, having lost to the three top team (all clubs fielding their A team in division 4!), a "development Championship panel integrating the under 16s coming through to minor, the existing minors and inviting the first year minor A panelists who have played the league this year and Management from both levels could have a good go and set the scene for the minor development/B team next season.

With the added dimension of the number of second year Minors challenging for AFL7 places, these fine "Clubmen" are continuing a proud tradition and exciting even the most hardened cynic!

Fantastic pictures by Steven Dagg, once he put the flags out, filled the water bottles, calmed the Manager!

Report by  Robbie Moloney

The 2014 version of Kilmacud Crokes' Minor B team finally took to a field as a team.  The field being made of Astro turf in Tom Russell Park.

The weather abated for the first time this year and had limited the opportunities for the panel to train together and certainly it was their first sight of "goals" this year. And this showed in the first half with St. Brigids edging the score 5-4 at half time. With this first sight of goals came a free for al of shots form all angles and all positions!

Within a few minutes of the second half throw in, St. Brigids had pulled away with a goal and a point.

Ben Shovlan, on loan form the A team, lined out at full back, but his movement back to midfield opened up the game where he supported the new combination of Paul Comerford and Liam Lundon who had enjoyed the open spaces in the first half.  Equally, John McDonald who had performed admirably at Full Forward, reverted to his more accustomed Full Back position and saw off the the threat from the Brigids' 14.

StephenO'Hurley made his return to club colours, in the unaccustomed position of 'Keeper, where he was voted by his peers in a secret balot, secret, because he wasn't there.  A fine, varied kick out, his six foot presence and great disruption, actually started a move that ended up with a goal for Gavin McDermott at the other end of the field!

A final score of 1-9 for the home side was overshadowed by the late rally and  a second half tally of 2-7.  1-9 to 2-11 the final score, job well done.

The first year minors, forming a third of the squad, their arrival has meant there is a decent sized squad and now we see their contribution will be more than numerical!

With Five off injured and three away, there is great hope for the season, but a long way to go.  Pete Moloney and Mikey Crowley represented the injured and admirably assisted their team mates from the sidelines, where Conor O'Shea and TJ Maher ably assisted new Manager Robbie Moloney.
