Senior Footballers out again next Monday night!!

After one of the most open, sporting and thrilling finals in years our senior team are still in the hunt for Dublin honours.  On a greasy surface and with the strong breeze favouring Crokes the huge crowd saw Plunketts out of the blocks quicker than their leg-weary opponents.  After a composed and energetic performance, the team making their first appearance in a Dublin final led 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time and a shock was on the cards with the breeze advantage to come.

Crokes had other ideas and seemed rejuvenated on the resumption.  After a slick passing move Pat Burke was on hand to finish to the net after 10 minutes to lead 1-7 to 0-7.  Far from being fazed, Plunketts fired over 5 points in quick succession including a truly inspirational Ross Mc Connell effort.  There were chances to both sides over the remainder of the hour but Plunketts will feel they had the better opportunities.  With just 2 minutes remaining and the scores level Gareth Smith, who had a fine game, elected to shoot for goal when a point was there for the taking: the ball cannoned off the cross-bar and was cleared to safety by alert Crokes defenders.  The tension continued in a nail-biting finale but no further scores resulted.

The character of this Crokes squad was well and truly tested and the boys proved equal to the task once more.  Credit to both teams who helped to lighten the mood of the capital on a murky night.  We look forward to the next episode in the series on Monday next at 7.30pm (tbc).  Meanwhile good luck to Ross, Shane, Barry and all of the senior hurlers on Sunday at the same venue (2pm) - SHC semi-final v Crumlin.  Our hopes of the double live on. - please support both teams!
