Young Dubs Claim Famous U21 Victory v Donegal

The Dublin under 21footballers battled to a well deserved All Ireland U21 final victory over a dogged Donegal side on Saturday May 1st in Cavan town.  The game was a tightly contested affair with neither team giving an inch.  The prematch talk was all about the battle between the reigning young player of the year, Donegal's Michael Murphy, and Kilmacud's own Rory O'Caroll.  The main event did not fail to deliver fireworks! Rory however gave a masterclass in full back play and curbed Murphys influence throughout the match.  Deep in injury time, following a disputed penalty, Murphy had the chance to win the game for his county who were then trailing by just 2 points.  Alas, for once Lady Luck was on the side of the Sky Blues as the shot cannoned back off the crossbar.

It was a special day for both club and county as Kilmacud had 5 members on the victorious panel.  Apart from Rory (who was awarded Man of The Match for his efforts) Eoin Culligan gave a sterling performance at corner back.  Mark Coughlan worked tirelessly at centre forward, kicked a fine score, and limited the attacking prowess of the Donegal half forward line.  Barry O'Rorke was introduced at a critical time in the 2nd half and kicked two crucial scores.  Craig Diaz made up the Crokes contingent and although he was ill in the lead up to the game he made a significantc ontribution to the panel and will be back again next year hungrier than ever!

Well done lads, you have made your county and your parish proud!
