12th Annual Punchestown Race day

Body

Hurling and horses were the topic of conversation at Dublin’s famous Goat Grill, the location of the launch of the 2015 Kilmacud Crokes Punchestown Race Day.

The Race Day is now in its 12th year and takes place this year on Tuesday the 28th April.

It is very much a fixture of the Kilmacud Crokes Social and Corporate Calendar and has proved to be a wonderful day out for members and supporters of the famed Dublin GAA Club.

This year the event is being supported and sponsored by the legendary Limerick and Dublin Sports fanatic Charlie Chawke.

Charlie was joined by Ollie Baker, the Manager of Kilmacud Crokes, current Dublin Senior Hurling Champions along with some of the stars of the Club Team including Captain Sean McGrath and inter county stars Ryan O’Dwyer, Niall Corcoran and Rory O’Carroll.

Speaking at the launch Chairman of Kilmacud Crokes Hurling, Peter Walsh, said that he was delighted to launch the event which was an important part of the social fabric of the Club but also a key fundraiser for the generation of funds needed to support the activities in hurling from the Club from nursery to senior level.  2014 saw us crowned County Champions but ultimately go out of the All Ireland Series to eventual winners Ballyhale Shamrocks.

It all starts again in April when we take on St. Vincent’s in the first round of the championship and work is already underway.

The Kilmacud Crokes Punchestown Race Day is a crucial part of our fund raising efforts and the support of Charlie Chawke in coming behind the event is much appreciated.

Peter went on to say that the Goat is a landmark institution in the South Dublin Area and Charlie Chawke has been long associated with the GAA and with Kilmacud Crokes in particular.

Peter thanked Charlie for his support and for coming behind the efforts of the Club at all levels.

Charlie Chawke told those assembled that he was delighted to continue and extend his long association with Gaelic games and with Kilmacud Crokes in particular.  Charlie is a fan of all sports but hurling has a special place in his heart and he was delighted to welcome the Kilmacud Croke’s hurlers as County Champions and was further delighted to come on board as sponsor of the event.

He looked forward to a long association with the Club. He values many club members and supporters as his customers and club successes have been toasted on many occasions in the famous South Dublin venue.
