Dedication pays off as U11's beat Crumlin, 26 May 07

Body

In an exciting game, which showed some great touches Crokes beat Crumlin 4-9 to 1-4. Manager Mick Crowe was delighted with the outcome, in particular as Crokes hosted a number of games at Deerpark which required Crowe and a team of people to put up goals and nets and ensure that all was prepared for the occasion. Special thanks to Mick Veale, Declan Herlihy, Stephen Dagg, Tom McEvoy and Brian O Neill for this. All was done in order and once again Crokes were well prepared and not found wanting.

Crowe said “I am delighted that the players came through, it shows the value of regular training and dedication to learning the skills and techniques of hurling. A big thank you to the many parents who have been fantastic in supporting their children and the club in advancing the game of hurling. We are lucky to have a number of parents and mentors who are dedicated to the various teams and you can see in the boys that the hard work is paying off”.

Team list was as follows: Ruari Gerathy, Ryan Murphy, Cian Wade, Stephen Doyle, Mark Hallam, Tadgh Murphy, Shane Veale, Conor Gowing, Craig Lawlor, Eoin McMahon, Colin Smyth, Shane Vallum, Kevin Culligan, Daniel Dempsey. Apologies and sick were Sean Crowe and Stephen Barr. Captain – Stephen Doyle

Game got off to a cracking start with Eoin McMahon bagging to goals after two fine catches. At the back line Ryan Murphy was busy and playing well, ably assisted by Stephen Doyle. Midfield with Tadgh Murphy and Shane Veale got the best of the early exchanges and there were some flashes of promise from Conor Gowing. Cian Wade and Mark Hallam stuck to the task. Craig Lawlor showed great tenacity and was unlucky not to score in the first half. Colin Smyth battled hard and along with Kevin Culligan and Daniel Dempsey continue to work towards the elusive goal that has eluded them in the last two matches. Colin was very unlucky on once occasion – ball stopped close to the line by an excellent Crumlin goalkeeper. Shane Vallum battled hard on his introduction and made a few good passes.

Overall man of the match was Ryan Murphy at the back who had an excellent game and continues to improve his stick skills. Stephen Doyle, Eoin McMahon, Conor Gowing, Tadgh Murphy and Shane Veale were highly commended.
