Dubs hurlers topple Galway

DUBLIN 2-21 GALWAY 0-15

Dublin made it two wins from two starts when they outclassed Galway in this NHL Division 1 clash at Parnell on Sunday.

Dublin hurled with great conviction and understanding while up front Liam Rushe gave further evidence of his blossoming talent.

Liam Ryan, who had an excellent game both in scoring 1-3 but also in the pressure he brought to bear on the Galway half-back line, goaled for the Dubs in the 11th minute to give them an early boost.

Rushe was the provider but when Ryan received the sliotar he still had a lot to do as the accelerated past two defenders before angling to the net past Colm Callanan.

Between the 18th and 22nd minute Dublin added four points without reply with Rushe on target and Alan McCrabbe converting two frees as well as a superb point from the terrace side on the 65-metre line.

By the interval Dublin had moved 1-10 to 0-7 ahead with their defence growing in confidence all the time.

Points from Rushe, an excellent individual effort, Simon Lambert and McCrabbe saw the home side move nine points ahead (1-13 to 0-7) before they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Rushe after he had brilliantly fetched yet another ball from the skies - McCrabbe took his point.

Galway had two players red-carded in the second half - Damien McClearn and sub Mark Kerins - but staged a mini-revival at the three-quarter mark before a McCrabbe 65 settle Dublin nerves.

Three minutes from time sub David O’Callaghan showed his opportunism when he dispossessed keeper Callanan before whipping to the net to put the icing on an encouraging Dublin display.

Kilmacud Crokes were represented by Niall Crocoran who coped admirably with the several markers sent his way by the Tribesmen.
