Dublin GAA are delighted to reveal plans for two fully accredited FETAC Level 6 courses in conjunction with Blanch IT and NADA (National Athletic Development Academy)

 

Conditioning Course for Gaelic Games

The Certificate in Conditioning for Gaelic Games now in its third year provides coaches with the principles needed to condition adult athletes effectively and analyze sporting movements and design skill development programmes.  It is specifically designed for mentor of team from U16 and above. Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to the basic theory underpinning the development of various fitness components.
  • Develop the ability to assess the various components of fitness.
  • Design and implement training programs to develop the various components of fitness.
  • Understand the role of nutrition during performance and recovery.
  • Other topics covered include Physical Demands of Gaelic Games, Conditioning for Gaelic Games, Functional & Performance Analysis in Gaelic Games, Training Principles and Planning, Power and Speed Development, Strength Training.

 The course will be run over the duration of the academic year from October to February with a final assignment due in May.  The course will be run on Wednesday evenings from 700pm – 9.30pm with one Saturday session in February

 

Athletic Development for Youth Players

This new course has been successfully piloted last year and will resume for a second year in October.  It is specifically designed for mentors of teams under 16 and younger.  

 

Topics to be covered will include the following:

  • Athlete Development (AD) Concepts for Children
  • Understanding the Practice & Applications of AD for Children
  • Critical Elements of a Holistic AD Programme for Children
  • Motor Development and its importance to Young Athletes
  • Basic Skills to Assess, Coach and Facilitate progressive and meaningful ‘Practice Sessions’
  • Developing and sharing best practice on Fun ‘Warm-Up’ and ‘Cool-down’ activities As well as AD ‘Home Challenges ’ Ideas for Children
  • Teaching Linear & Multi-directional Movement (ABC’s & RJT’s)
  • How We Can Empower OurYoung Athletes.

The course runs from October until March with a final assignment in May.  It will be run over 6 Thursday evenings (7.00pm – 9.30pm) and 4 Saturdays (10am – 4pm)
