Intermediates v Clanna Gael, 22 May 07

Body

Already assured of a quarter final place, barring a mishap of major proportions, Crokes Intermediate hurlers faced Clanna Gael in their final round robin championship game in Ringsend Park on Tuesday 22nd may 2007.

Crokes played with the wind in the first half and outscored the hosts by three points to one in the first ten minutes.  Clann drew level only for Kilmacud to pull ahead by one and then for Clann to immediately reel them in.  A fifteenth minute Clann goal was followed by two more points before Adrian Crean found the net for the first of his three goals in the twenty first minute from a good ball by John Ross Hunt.  Clann responded with a point and it took another Crean major in the twenty eight minute to leave the score 2-4 to 1-7 at the break.

Clann were quicker out of traps in the second half with two points before Peter Clinton replied in kind for Crokes in the thirty eight minute.  Clann then raised a white flag before Crean added his third goal in the fortieth minute to make the score 3-5 to 1-10.  By the 47th minute the sides had exchanged three points each.  Over the next three minutes Clann went a point ahead by converting a 65 and a free.  Davy Baker then placed Darragh Burke to level.  When Richie Power put over his eight point of the evening with four minutes left it looked as if Crokes might prevail.  Unfortunately a late two goal scoring spree was enough to see Clann prevail 3-15 to 3-10.

On the night, apart from scorers in chief Crean and Power, Crokes also had good performances from Tomas Donohue, Dave Canny, Willie Ryan, debutant goalkeeper Barry Mulligan and William McEvoy, when introduced.  Crokes now face a quarter final on Sunday afternoon 27th May 2007 against Trinity Gaels in Silverpark at 3.00pm.
