3 late goals not enough

Crokes travelled to Marino to take on St. Vincents in their second group match. From the beginning Crokes were chasing the game as Vincents put in a highly motivated performance from the off, dictating the pace and direction of the play throughout. The accurate free-taking of Seán Keating kept Crokes in touch and they were just three points behind at half-time despite being outplayed throughout the field, 0-07 to 0-04. A pointed free after the restart raised Crokes’ supporters hopes of a come back but Vincents went on to completely dominate for the next twenty minutes, picking off some great scores from play in the process. To  Crokes’ credit, however, they kept plugging away and a Seán Keating goal ten minutes from the end started a mini-revival. This was followed a few minutes later by a Dara Ó Gallchobhair goal and a great goal from a 20 metre free by Cian Mac Gabhann (playing his second game within the space of two hours having lined earlier for the Seniors against Judes). Try as they might however, Crokes could not bridge the gap any further and the final score read Vincents 1-16, Crokes 3-07.

This was a stark reminder of the intensity required for championship hurling and the lads will need to really apply themselves accordingly if they are to proceed any further.
