Minor A's Draw With Na Fianna

Body

The minor A hurlers had their second championship match on sunday against Na Fianna. It was a lovely morning and the Mobhi Road venue was in great shape.

Na Fianna hit the ground running and forced a free straight from the throw in which was converted. Crokes were very slow to settle and conceded another point before Fionnan Motherway opened our account with a free. Na Fianna came again and only for John Huban with a magnificent block would have had a goal. Na Fianna kept taking their points while we had to rely on frees from Fionnan and Ken Kelly to stay in touch. Through the first half Crokes were second to every ball in the forwards and only for the sterling work of the defence in which Rob Murphy and Jamie Clinton stood out Na Fianna would have been further ahead at the short whistle.  At half time it was 0 8 to 0 4 for Na Fianna.

Crokes went straight on the attack from the off in the second half with Barry Horan scoring a fine point. Na Fianna hit back with another point but Crokes came back with a couple of points from Ken and Fionnan from play. Then following fine work by the forwards Matthew Geraghty scored a goal to put us in front. Conor O'Dwyer and Caolan Conway then added points to leave us 3 points up with 10 minutes to go. We had opportunities to go further ahead but unfortunately didn’t take them and Na Fianna hit back and brought themselves level in injury point to claim a deserved draw.

The final score was Crokes 1 11 Lucan 0 14. A lot more hard work is needed before our last group match versus Ballinteer.
