Minors Notch Up First Points With Win Over League Leaders

Body
The Minor A hurlers travelled to Erins Isle on Sunday 18th April 2010 for our fourth league match. Training had gone well and spirits were high despite recent results. We knew we were in for a tough match against the league leaders but the team were ready. From the whistle Crokes attacked and Tom Clarke scored a fine point. This was followed up by a period of tit for tat between the teams and after 20 minutes it was four points apiece. Crokes then scored a soft goal from a pass by Dillon Mulligan which eluded the Isles goalkeeper. Crokes pushed on and scored a second goal before half time from Justin Cassidy. Our backs were defending superbly with Rob Murphy showing the way and Jonathan Hayes was punishing any indiscretions from frees. At half time the score was Crokes 2-7 Isles 0-6. Crokes were facing the wind in the second half but again straight from the throw in scored a fine point from Jude Sweeney. After 10 minutes Isles scored a goal to bring them to within 3 points but Crokes went straight up the field and Alex Pilkingotn scored a fine goal after a 20 metre run. Isles came at us again however our backs were excellent with Stephen Beale and Emmet Doherty clearing their lines well and Dillon Mulligan winning everything at midfield. Crokes then attacked and scored a fine goal from Ken Kelly and a number of points from Jonathan Hayes and Justin Cassidy. Isles scored another goal near the end but at the final whistle the score was Kilmacud Crokes 4-10 Erins Isle 2-7 Team: Sean Garvey, John Huban, Rob Murphy, Emmet Doherty, Stephen Beale, Enda Grogan, Louis Whelan, James O'Keeffe, Gary Melican, Dillon Mulligan, Jude Sweeney, Tom Clarke, Jonathan Hayes, Justin Cassidy, Alex Pilington.
