Mixed fortunes for Minors

Minor Bs lose out to O’Tooles

Silver Park was the venue for this top of the table clash on Sunday morning, 20 May. Due to a long list of absentees through injury and duty with the Minor As a large number of Under 16 players were drafted in and introduced to the intensity of Minor hurling. The first half was evenly contested with both sides struggling to gain the upper hand and with tight defending from both sets of backs along with some curious refereeing decisions most of the scores came from placed balls, with Mikey O’Dwyer scoring all of Crokes five first half points, a total matched by O’Tooles at the break.

The second half continued in a similar vein with the game tightly balanced point for point and play evenly distributed throughout the pitch. The decisive score, a fortuitous goal for O’Tooles, came about ten minutes from the end and from then on the physically imposing side in green and white managed to hold on despite a late surge from Crokes. The final score: O’Tooles 1-9 Crokes 0-7. The outstanding feature of the match was the goalkeeping display of Tadhg Murphy in the Crokes goal. Time and again he stopped what looked like certain goals from the burly O’Tooles forwards and his puck-outs and clearances were top-notch. Others to impress for Crokes were Peter Herlihy, Kevin Ó Flanagáin and Graham Healy-Hayes.

Team: Tadhg Murphy, Mark Collins, Gregory Buckley, Eoin Keane, Kevin Ó Flanagáin, Donncha Ó Murchú (0-1f), Aindriú Ó hEachteirn, Mikey O’Dwyer (0-6f), Tom Duke, Daniel Coakley, Peter Herlihy, Seán Bedford, Graham Healy-Hayes, Adam Spollen, Conor Egan.

Subs: Ruairí Geraghty for Adam Spollen
