Opening AHL3 Win for Inters

Body
On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning for hurling, Crokes came out winners by 1-11 to 1-9 in a hard fought physical encounter against a dogged Commercials side. Although the margin in the end was only two points, the scoreline didn’t reflect the superiority of the visitors, and only for the brilliance of the young commercials goal-keeper the score line would have been much different in Crokes favour. The sides were level at half-time, 1-5 each. Kilmacud showed much improvement in the second half but just couldn’t put commercials away. Nevertheless Crokes came out worthy winners in the end Ray Mangan after a long layoff with injury had an outstanding game at wing back, showed great leadership and was inspirational to his teammates. Shane McNicholas, Declan Browne, and Darren McVeigh were also to the fore. Niall Mulligan and Killian Doherty worked hard at midfield and up front Sean Murphy, Daibhi de Paor, Sean McGrath, Alan Tiernan, and Alan Carr all played well For Commercials Sean Power, John Finnegan, and John Morris who are in the twilight of their careers played well (these lads played against us in the U21 championship in 1989) and their young goal-keeper was outstanding. Scorers for Crokes were D de Paor 1-3 (1f), S McGrath 0-2(2f), M Dalton 0- 2, A Carr 0-2, K Doherty 0-1 and S Murphy 0-1. Report by Mick Hynes
