Punchestown Race Day 2005

Body

A large crowd came to Glenalbyn on January 20th for a reception to launch Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Section's Punchestown Race Day 2005, which will be held on April 26th. The guest speaker was Cyril Farrell, one of RTE's best known hurling pundits who managed Galway to All-Ireland success in 1980, 1987 and 1988.

Cyril, who travelled from Galway for the occasion, congratulated the club for its very successful running of the inaugural race day last year and wished them well with this year's event. He also entertained the crowd with some very interesting insights into his hurling philosophy and numerous anecdotes from over 40 years in the game.

Another distinguished guest at the reception was a certain Liam McCarthy who made it all the way from Cork, and most of us (apart from a few narky Noreside natives!) commented on how well he looked in red and white!

The crowd was also addressed by the chairman of the organising committee Seamus Clancy, Club Chairman Tommy Lyons and Hurling Section Chairman Tom Barry. Seamus reminded everyone that the proceeds of Race Day would go towards underage coaching and in particular towards the building of the hurling wall. In this regard he was delighted to say that planning permission for the wall had just come come through earlier that day.

Tommy wished the hurling section every luck with the Race Day, while Tom reminded everyone that it would take a huge effort on the part of all in the Hurling Section in selling tables, raising sponsorship and helping in any way possible to make the day a success.

Further details can be obtained from Hurling Section Commercial Officer, Seamus Clancy, 087-2560318 or seamus.clancy@sita.ie.
