PUNCHESTOWN UPDATE

WE WELCOME OUR OLYMPIAN MICHAEL CARRUTH & HIS WIFE PAULA AS OUR GUESTS ON THE DAY

WE ALSO WELCOME LORNA FOWLER AS OUR ‘MASTER OF CEREMONIES

Now that Cheltenham 2012 has come and gone, all eyes turn to the Punchestown Festival for Irish and UK supporters of National Hunt racing.   Punchestown will be an opportunity for some of those fancied Irish horses to redeem themselves somewhat after Cheltenham.  Will Hurricane Fly, Sizing Europe or indeed Boston Bob, be able to make up for their defeats at Cheltenham?

We are expecting another enthralling re-match between Sizing Europe and Big Zeb in the Grade 1 Boylesports Champion Chase.  Both will be seeking to make up for their disappointments in the Queen Mother Champion Chase in Cheltenham.

It is an incredible testimony that our Punchestown race day continues to go from strength to strength.  Our 9th Annual race day on the 24th April promises to be no exception.

Special Guest – Michael Carruth

We are delighted to announce that our Irish Boxing Olympic Gold Medallist from Barcelona in 1992 Michael Carruth and his wife Paula will be attending the Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Punchestown Race day on 24th April next as our special guests.  How fitting it is to have Michael with us in this very special year as the London Olympics 2012 draws ever closer.  Will any of our boxing team be able to claim only a second gold medal for Ireland, in the Olympic ring?  Who can forget the epic journey as we followed Michael to the Welterweight Gold Medal in 1992 in a pulsating final, beating Juan Hernandez Sierra from Cuba?  Indeed the Cuban boxer went on to become a multiple world champion in the years following his Olympic final defeat.

Indeed for the 2012 campaign, Michael has now joined Anthony Daly’s back room team as the Dublin hurling masseuse.  No doubt he will pass on his own inspiration to this magnificent group of young hurlers.

MC – Lorna Fowler

We are also delighted this year to have secured the services of Lorna Fowler as our ‘Master of Ceremonies’ for our 9th annual race day. Lorna will bring considerable experience to our Race day.

With a natural flair for capturing the moment Lorna moved to Newmarket, the home of racing, and became MC at both Newmarket racecourses. Her presentations and interviews have become synonymous with the racecourses where she has become known as ‘the voice of Newmarket’.

Lorna has covered some of racing’s biggest events from around the world including the Grand National meeting at Aintree (Aintree TV) the Cheltenham Festival (Cheltenham & Time form Radio), World Equestrian Games in Aachen (Radio 5 Live), International Jockeys meeting in South Africa (Teletrack) and Royal Ascot (Timeform Radio). Additionally, she is a regular presenter for Racing UK where she conducts interviews and fronts features.

We look forward to welcoming Lorna on the day.

Our annual Punchestown race day has proven to be an excellent event either for Corporate Entertainment or indeed entertaining staff, colleagues, friends or family.

In addition this year we are having ‘live music’, a band all the way from the West of Ireland (more details to follow), back in the Clubhouse in Glenalbyn after racing, it is always a fantastic sociable evening.  All are welcome to attend.

The response to Punchestown has again this year been very strong.  If you are interested in taking a table (or part of) or know perhaps a Company who may have interest, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of our workgroup below.  It proves to be an excellent day for a Company to entertain their guests or indeed use it as a staff day event.

I can assure you like previous years, the attendees will have a memorable day out.

Yours,

Brendan Sweeney
