Report for week ending 1 November 2009

Body

On the main pitch the under 16’s had little difficulty disposing of the challenge of Faughs in a Division 1 Bottom 4 tie.  Crokes led 2-11 to 1-3 at the break.  In the second half the trend continued and it finished 5-18 to 3-7.  To the fore for the winners were Andrew Cullinane, Louis O’Sullivan, Cian Gormley, Fionan Motherway, Ken Kelly, Matthew McNicholas and Robert Murphy.

Squad: P Tighe, C O’Dwyer, T Murphy, L O’Sullivan, O O’Carroll, S Moran, J Clinton, J Huban, C O’Neill, F Motherway, C Gormley, K Kelly, M McNicholas, N Hanley, A Cullinane, M Herlihy, A Colclough and C Devins.

On Silverpark 2 the under 13B’s saw off Oliver Plunketts/Eoin Ruadh in Division 3.  With Niall Sweeny in superb form at full forward the Kilmacud boys were two goals clear after ten minutes – one each from Niall and Shane Vallom.  A Cian Fahey goal ten minutes later made it 3-2 to 0-1.  The visitors got the only other score before half time, a goal.  Within a minute of the restart Niall scored his second goal and two minutes on it was 5-2 to 2-1.  To their credit the Navan Road side never gave up and added two goals of their own while the Kilmacud boys tacked on 2-4 to conclude matters at 7-6 to 3-1.  Among the stars for the victors were goalkeeper Killian Fleming, Sayeed Risvi, Frances O’Reilly, Ruairi Geraghty, Niall Sweeny and Stephen O’Hurley.

Squad: K Fleming, M Redmond, S Risvi, J Egan, C Montague, F O’Reilly, S O’Hurley, D Coakley, R Geraghty, R Kennedy, S Barr, C Fahey, K Culligan, N Sweeny, S Vallom, H Barry, R Cahill, A Liffey and C Gowing.

Only one of the two Division 1 under 12 back matches scheduled for Silverpark on Sunday 1 November 2009 was played as the second pitch was waterlogged.  Having gone into arrears in the opening ten minutes KC1 fought back for a hard earned 5-5 to 4-0 victory over St Vincents.  Among the leading lights were Darragh Butler, Adam Tuck, Alex Considine and Mark O’Rourke.  The under 13 Division 1 clash with Ballyboden fixed for Hermitage also fell victim to the weather and is refixed for the all weather pitch at Sancta Maria on Tuesday 4th November 2009 under lights.

Monster Draw

Like every other group in the club, the club executive is strapped for funds and has initiated a fundraising effort to get the money needed to pay for ongoing pitch maintenance.  The hurling club has been allocated a quota of tickets to sell as part of this initiative.  Essentially it is a monster draw scheduled for 27th November 2009 and 26th February 2010 with a prize fund of €100,000 on each occasion.  Tickets for both draws together cost €100 or €50 per draw.  In all there are 940 prizes.  Tickets are available for €100 each & if you wish to purchase a ticket, please contact any hurling mentor or member of the hurling committee.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Niall Corcoran, Club hurling coach, 087 983 4287, niall.corcoran@gmail.com
