Report Week Ending 13th June 2010

Body

After the lull of the previous fortnight this was a very busy adult league hurling mid week.  The adult teams were also active at the weekend as were several underage teams.

On Wednesday 9th June 2010 the seniors travelled to Shankill to take on Cuala in AHL1.  Crokes led by three points, 2-4 to 0-6 at the break.  A second half goal from Fergal Armstrong was pivotal in securing a 3-11 to 0-13 win.  For report see HERE

At the same time the intermediates racked up their first two points of the week in AHL3 away to St Sylvesters with a 1-15 to 1-8 win, despite seeing a 1-50-8 to 0-1 advantage reeled in.  For report see HERE.  For the inters the real drama came on Friday evening.  A lacklustre first half against Trinity Gaels in Silverpark, that saw them trail 0-12 to 0-3, did not augur well.  A complete transformation in the second half produced an exciting and well deserved 1-14 to 0-13 win to round off a good week’s work.  For report see HERE

Tuesday evening had the Junior A’s playing host to Liffey Gaels and winning 4-13 to 0-10 (4-6 to 0-7 at the interval) in AHL5.  For report see HERE.  On Thursday the Junior E’s recorded an AHL8 success over Contarf.  On Sunday morning the outcome was the opposite against opponents Raheny.  Thursday also saw the under U14B’s record a good league win over near neighbours Naomh Olaf’s (5-15 to 0-9).  For report see HERE

Saturday brimmed with underage activity.  One under 8 (3 team squad) was scheduled to travel to Lucan Sarsfields while the other entertained St Vincents at Oatlands, where the northsiders had the better of the proceedings.  Both under 9 squads were at home.  The 3 team panel were too good for Na Fianna at Deerpark and the 2 team squad accounted for Cuala 1 at Oatlands.

In the under 11 Hurling League Divisions 1A and 1B Naomh Mearnog brought two teams to Deerpark.  Crokes won one game comfortably and lost the other by two points.  In Division 2 of the under 12 league Crokes A team had a comprehensive win over Naomh Barrog at Deerpark with Jim Gibbons, Conor Byrne, Ronan Hayes, Peter O’Reilly, Colm O’Shea and James McDonald starring.

Under 12 Squad:

Barry Hudson, James McDonald, Fergus Montague, Mark Phelan, Peter O’Reilly, Conor Byrne, Michael Roche, Ronan Hayes, Jack Gallagher, Cian Ryan, Colm O’Shea, Ben Rafter, Jim Gibons, Sean Dunbar, Neil Mooney, Calum Raftery and Conall Keane.

Also on 12th June 2010, as part of their All-Ireland Feile preparations, the under 14A’s went to Kilkenny for a useful workout against James Stephens.

Sunday morning 13th June 2010 pitted the Junior A’s against St Brigids in Russell Park in AHL5 from which they came away with a 2-18 to 0-4 win.  At the break it was 1-10 to 0-1.  Starring were Brian Sheehan, with six points from play at full forward, and Aidan McCarthy who gave an exhibition at centre back.  In Pairc de Burca there was a triple header.  The under 12B’s lost their Division 4 encounter with Clontarf 4-9 to 4-8, conceding two late goals.  Stars included Michael Mullin, Oisin O'Siochru, Evin Comerford, who was excellent from the placed ball, and Jake Daly, who got two great second half goals, following his switch from nets.  The under 11’s had the Glynn Barntown under 12’ as visitors for two games en route to Croke Park for the Dublin –v- Wexford Leinster senior football championship game.  Honours were shared.

Mini All-Irelands

The ever popular mini All-Irelands concluded in bright sunshine on Friday 11th June 2010.  The week-long festival for hurlers from under-7 up to under-12 commenced on bank holiday Monday.  Friday evening was finals night for all the teams.  In all some 370 boys took part and their infectious enthusiasm of the kids gladdened the heaviest heart.  Well done to Niall Corcoran, Padraic McDonald and all concerned.
