Report for Week ending 19 Aug 2007
Highlights of the week include the Dublin under 21’s, with Crokes Ross O’Carroll, qualifying for the All-Ireland Final on 9th September, a cup for the under 16’s and the under 15’s reaching the championship semi-final.
Dubs reach U21 Final
The All-Ireland under 21 semi-final in Newry on Saturday 18th August ended in a 3-18 to 2-11 Dublin victory over Derry with Ross O’Carroll contributing two points (for report click HERE). The All-Ireland Final in Croke Park will be against the winners of next weekend’s semi final between Cork and Galway. By then, we are all hoping Shane O’Rorke will have recovered sufficiently from injury to press for a place
Under 16's Victorious
En route to the Newry game, the Crokes under 16’s picked up some silverware by defeating Dungiven and the home team in the Ballygalget tournament. Stars for Crokes included Hugh Byrne, Brendan Halpin, Cian O’Brien, Peter McCague and Jack Doughan in a new position at centre field.
U10's do well in Gorey Tournament
Earlier on Saturday the under 10’s did well in the Naomh Eanna Tournament in Gorey, defeating Naas and Rappparees of Enniscorthy before going out to James Stephens of Kilkenny in the semi-final by 2-6 to 0-3. The sides were level with ten minutes to go but the Kilkenny boys finished stronger.
U11's Camaint
On Saturday afternoon the under 11’s had to give way 1-0 to 0-1 to Naomh Barrog in the camant semi final at Parnell Park.

Junior B's disappointment
Sunday morning saw the interest of the injury hit, Junior B’s, in the championship end with defeat in Liffey Park to Liffey Gaels by 2-17 to 1-8. Best for Crokes were Colm Maher, with 1-3, Billy Noctor in goal, Gavin Hyland, Stephen Russell and Kevin Dalton.
U15s beat Lucan to reach Semi Final
At the same time the under 15’s bounced back, from their Tuesday away league defeat by Na Fianna, to impressively overcome Lucan Sarsfields by 3-10 to 0-04 in the quarter final of the championship. For report click HERE
Seniors beat South Dublin
In a Silverpark challenge on Monday the seniors beat the South Dublin Regional team 4-18 to 2-8 with good performances from James Burke, Donal McGovern, Niall Murphy, Kieran Murphy and MacDara O’hOgain while on Thursday the under 16B’s lost to St Peregrines in the league
All Ireland Sevens looms
Off the field it is now all hands on deck for the annual AIB Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens on Saturday 1st September. Running since 1973, this showpiece attracts top club sides from all over the country on the Saturday before the All-Ireland Final and has evolved into a true Festival of Hurling. Many of the recent winners have used success in the Sevens as a platform for county championship titles (e.g. Erins Own, Cork, Garryspillane, Limerick, Portumna, Galway, Mullinahone, Tipperary). Over seventy teams will participate and the events of the day will be covered by Setanta Sport TV, local & national radio and print media.
The Sevens is crucial to the success of hurling in the club. We are again producing a colour programme and we are endeavouring to increase the number of adverts included within. To cater for the attendance, we will have a print run of over 3,000 programmes. If you are not personally in a position to place an advert, perhaps you might know of someone within your immediate circle that might. There are advert sizes and related costs to suit all budgets.
