Report for week ending 20 Sept 2009

Body

This was a relatively quiet playing week at the upper ages and adult levels.

Sunday morning provided two important wins for the minor teams. In the A championship Crokes accounted for Erins Isle by 2-11 to 0-5 in Silverpark. The Finglas side had defeated Ballyboden in the opening game of the round robin series and were well in the game until Matthew Kinsella’s goal in the twenty first minute made it 1-3 to 0-3. Before the short whistle Crokes added another 1-2 to the visitors’ solitary point. The second half saw the Crokes lads continue to dominate and they next face Ballyboden in the final round robin game. For report see HERE

Away from home the second minor team had a good win over Lucan Sarsfields at 12th Lock to get their championship campaign back on track. In arrears, 2-8 to 2-6, at the break, a strong second half showing was needed and produced. The sides were level with ten minutes remaining before a powerful finish saw Crokes home by 3-15 to 2-12. For report see HERE

Earlier in the week, on Monday the intermediates, preparing for their delayed championship quarter final played Oulart-the-Ballagh (Wexford) in a challenge.

On Saturday the under 12’s went to James Stephens in. Kilkenny for a tournament. Following games with Clara (Kilkenny), the hosts and St Martins of Wexford they qualified for the Shield final. The opening period was very close with the Crokes boys shading it 1-3 to 1-2 at the break. The second half saw them continue where they left off and run out 4-6 to 1-2 winners. For report see HERE .

Monster Draw

Like every other group in the club, the club executive is strapped for funds and has initiated a fundraising effort to get the money needed to pay for ongoing pitch maintenance.  The hurling club has been allocated a quota of tickets to sell as part of this initiative.  Essentially it is a monster draw scheduled for 27th November 2009 and 26th February 2010 with a prize fund of €100,000 on each occasion.  Tickets for both draws together cost €100 or €50 per draw.  In all there are 940 prizes. Tickets are available for €100 each & if you wish to purchase a ticket, please contact any hurling mentor or member of the hurling committee.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:
Niall Corcoran, Club hurling coach, 087 983 4287, niall.corcoran@gmail.com
Michael Crowe, Chairman, Juvenile Hurling Group, 087-9967608, mjcrowe@gofree.indigo.ie
