Report Week Ending 22nd August 2010

Body

On Wednesday 18th August 2010 the Junior A’s championship hopes suffered a blow when going down gamely by 2-13 to 2-10 against Ballyboden at Silverpark.  For report see HERE.  The same team rebounded in fine style in their final championship round robin game against Cuala in Shankill on Sunday morning 22nd August 2010.  A well merited 2-15 to 1-14 win put them through to the quarter finals on score difference.  For report see HERE.

On the intercounty stage the Dublin under 21’s, with four Crokes starters and one introduced as a substitute, bowed out of the All-Ireland race following Saturday’s (21st August 2010) semi final defeat to Galway in Tullamore.  The Dubs were well in the game up to half time but were unable to stay with the Westerners in the second half.  For report see HERE.  Our congratulations to the Crokes players who contributed to Dublin’s fine season (Ronan Walsh, Robert O’Loughlin, Conor Clinton, Barry O’Rorke, Kevin O’Loughlin and Rory O’Carroll) as well as to manager and Crokes clubman Richard Stakelum for his exemplary leadership.

The Junior E’s remain on championship track despite going down 4-13 to 0-11 in Thursday evening’s (19th August 2010) top of the table tie away to Skerries Harps.  The latter featured former Dublin senior Denis Murphy in goal.  Among Crokes best were Fiona Motherway, Cian O’Brien, Ciaran O’Callaghan and goalkeeper Paddy Tighe.

Meanwhile in Kilbarrack the under 14B’s drew with Naomh Barrog in league Division 3, 3-7 apiece.  Crokes were down six points at half time.  Turning this around they went six points clear in the second half and were four up with few minutes to go.  A late goal secured a share of the points for Naomh Barrog.  Among the Kilmacud lads better performers were Andrew Ahern, Sayed Rizvi, Niall Sweeny, Ruairi Geraghty, Johnny Maher and Conn O’Cleirigh who bagged 1-1.

The intermediates played two Corn Ui Laochra games during the week.  On Friday they defeated St Vincents by seven points while on Sunday they won away to Naomh Barrog in the same competition.

The combined under 13A team was in Cork for the St Finbarrs tournament on Saturday 21st August 2010.  An opening defeat to Nenagh Eire Og (4-3 to 2-5) left no room for error in the remaining group games and there was none as Blackrock (Cork) were accounted for by seven points and Ballincollig from the same county also well beaten.  In the semi final the Crokes boys overcame Douglas (Cork).  With the aid of a first half wind the Stillorgan team led 2-4 to 2-3 at the break.  They were still leading as the game neared its end only for a last gasp St Finbarrs goal to deny them the title by two points.

On the home front the under 13B’s beat Lucan Sarsfields B in Division 5 by 6-9 to 1-5.  Stars included Donal O’Callaghan, Louis de Courcey, Sean Dunbar, Mark Phelan, Colm O’Shea and Evan Comerford.
