Report Week Ending 28th August 2011
Saturday 27th August 2011 brought St Finians of Swords to Silverpark for a Junior A hurling championship relegation playoff. Crokes deservedly won by 2-12 to 0-11 and guaranteed Junior A championship status for 2012. Barrai Brennan contributed 0-10 while in defence John Huban and Steven Beale excelled with James O’Keeffe a powerhouse in midfield.
Sunday was a great day for the under 10’s as they won all their four games to bring home the prestigious O’Loughlin Gaels (Kilkenny) trophy for the second year running. In their group they accounted for James Stephens, Thomastown and Clara before defeating Erins Own (Castlecomer) in the final. Well done to all concerned and many thanks to our hosts. For report see HERE
As part of their championship preparations the seniors played two games this week. On Tuesday 23rd August 2011 Crumlin were visitors to Silverpark for a game Crokes won 6-19 to 2-9. The goals came from Ryan O’Dwyer (4) and Ronan Walsh (2). Others to star included Will McEvoy, Naomhan O’Rearden and Jude Sweeney Friday the team headed west to play Athenry and came away victorious after a well fought encounter. For pictures of the Crumlin and Athenry games see HERE. The Inters were also active on the challenge scene with a Saturday morning one point victory over St Judes at Silverpark.
Following the Inter match the Leopardstown venue saw the under 12B’s host one of the annual Leinster Tournament groups with Tara Rocks (Wexford), Ballygar (Galway) and Ballyboden B as guests. The A’s went to Ballinteer where in addition to beating the hosts they overcame Mount Leinster Rangers and Na Fianna A.
Further afield on Saturday it was the turn of the younger generation to emulate their older colleagues on the intercounty scene as several Crokes youngsters were in representative action.
The club was represented by Darragh Butler (captain), Alex Considine, Mark O’Rourke, Fiachra O’Connor, Fergal Whitely and Cathal Keane on the Dublin under 14A panel in the Tony Forristal competition in Waterford where the Dubs lost to Cork and drew with Galway. Stevie O’Dwyer played in all three of Dublin’s under 14B games which they lost narrowly to Tipperary, Limerick and Clare. Tadgh Murphy, Eamon Allen, Mark McCallion, Sean Keating, Sean Crowe and Conor Gowing flew the flag on the Dublin South under 15 squad that lost the Leinster Shield final to Antrim. At under 16 level Cian MacGabhann, Mark O’Loughlin, Odhran O’Siochru and Donnchadha O’Murchu were part of the Dublin squad in the Tipperary Supporters Club All-Ireland Tournament.
Upcoming Fixtures
For hurling followers the coming weekend is the most important in the Irish sporting calendar. Centre piece is the senior All-Ireland Hurling final between Tipperary and Kilkenny on Sunday 4th September 2011. For the first time in 28 years Dublin will be represented when the minors take on Galway in the under 18 All-Ireland Hurling Final. Let’s hope the Dubs can win that elusive title and best of luck to Oisin O’Rorke and his colleagues.
The following Sunday the same two counties contest the Under 21 All-Ireland Hurling final in Thurles and Crokes will be well represented. Time to start making Thurles travel plans!

Photo Competition – Winner Announced
Many congratulations to Frances Mullin the winner of our Photo Competition.
Frances selected photograph number 7 (see below). The winner gets to nominate any player on any Kilmacud Crokes hurling team to be the subject of a special match photographic profile. Frances has selected her son Michael, who plays on the under 13 hurling team and will receive a special Presentation DVD f the occasion.
The competition was held to mark the fact that in a little over 20 months our Photo Gallery website – www.pix.ie/kchurling - notched up more than half a million photo views! Every week more and more photos are added of matches, social events and other club activities. The facility has obviously been and continues to be a big hit.
