Week Ending 14th February 2010

On Saturday 13th February 2010 Kilmacud Crokes B team claimed the 2009 Dublin under 21 D Championship in fine style at Moibhi Road against Na Fianna. On the quarter mark came the goal that really put day light between the sides. Barry Mulligan’s long ball was won by Naomhan O’Rearden. His popped pass was doubled to the net by Jack Doughan. Almost immediately Conor Caulfield converted another placed ball. It was now 2-4 to 0-2. During the remainder of the half Crokes added on a further 1-2 while the home team could only register two minors in reply. Crokes were never really in trouble in the second half and ran out 4-11 to 1-5 winners. The victory was a well deserved result for the management of Gerry McGrath, Billy, Noctor, Pat Halpin, Ken Hanamy and Ciaran Sheeran. Congratulations to all concerned. For report see HERE

Sunday afternoon saw the minors have a good work out against Wicklow in a challenge at Silverpark, winning by 3-15 to 3-10. Among Crokes best were Gary Melican, Louis Whelan and Alex Pilkington. Scorers were Tom Clarke 1-2 Niall Hanley and Andy Cullinane 1 goal each Alex Pilkington 0– 3 Jonathan Hayes 0– 2 from frees Fionan Motherway 0– 2 Eoghan O’Dwyer 0-2 (0-1 free) James Butler 0-1 Shane Moran 0-1 Gary Melican 0-1 Karl Russell 0-1

The juniors defeated Crumlin by 1.-12 to 0-08 in AHL5 (2009)

Dublin Seniors In Action Twice

On the inter county front Dublin’s hopes of entering the National League with a Walsh Cup title under their belt were dashed in the final at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon as they went down 1-22 to 1-15 to Galway. Crokes Niall Corcoran and Ronan Walsh featured. Ronan Walsh also came on as a substitute in Dublin’s Saturday night challenge against Tipperary at St Brigid’s (even if the link omits to mention this). For reports see HERE  and HERE

Colaiste Eoin Progress

On Monday 8th February Coláiste Eoin qualified for the last four of the Leinster Colleges A hurling competition when defeating Dublin North by 0-13 to 1-8 at Ayrfield. With Oisin Ó Ruairc and Marc Schutte the protagonists for the South Dublin School in the first half, Coláiste Eoin had opened up a 0-5 to 0-3 lead heading towards the break. But with John Hetherton impressing on the 40, Dublin North went on a 1-3 scoring run which was to culminate in a 28th-minute goal for full forward Ciarán Kilkenny. An Ó Ruairc free was to offer Coláiste Eoin hope as they trailed 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval. The second half saw Aodhan de Paor’s charges hold Dublin North scoreless from play, with Schutte, Aran Ó Murchú and Ó Ruairc leaving them two points up heading into an injury time. Colaiste Eoin now play Kilkenny CBS in the semi final, currently scheduled for Sunday 21st February 2010, possibly at a Laois venue.
